I think the general opinion of this board sways toward guru racings chips (www.gururacing.net) because Danno posts here often and the chips are as good or better than autothority's at a lower price.

I have mixed feelings. I inherited Autothority Stage II chips in my car. They tend to run too rich in low to midrange RPMs, and too lean up top. Also, price has never been Autothority's trump card. Their chips are expensive and their MAF kit prices strain credulity. From some of the posts I've read recently, Autothority is somewhat spotty in customer service (at least in terms of following up on email queries).

That said, I found it impossible to get a fairly new aftermarket tuner's chips to work in my car (I made three attempts). I always wound up going back to the APE chips, which fired up and ran okay each time, despite my misgivings noted above. Also, I believe that some other aftermarket chips on the market are patterned after the APE chips (not Guru's however).

My sense is that the APE chips are probably the oldest (i.e., been around the longest) and most prolific 951 chips on the market.

So, are there newer, better chips out there for the 951? Probably.

Are the APE chips an improvement over stock? With an additional (claimed) 40 or so HP, and higher boost levels, definitely (IMO).

I have used both Europroducts & APE chips. Both of these have A/F ratio problems.I have also tested Super Chips and found out that they are better than E-products or APE ones.

If you want to have the BEST on the market chips for your car get the GURU RACING chips.

I have had the Autothority chips and at the time I thought they were robbing my car of its full potential but in retrospect they never gave me any problems and Robin at Autothority is very good with customer service. Since Guru was mentioned I must say that I have Guru chips also but cant compare them to the autothority because I now run bigger injectors but they are good chips. In my experience, the bottom line is if your car is stock any of these chips will make a big difference but once you start making mods then you should go another route like a stand alone or a piggy back system which gives you the ability to tune and adjust the car. I dont see how chips can work to maximize performance and drivablilty once you start going outside of stock. Thats just my opinion.

They run a bit lean very high up, because stock turbos run out in that same rang. No one said that the Autothority chips sucked. Pesonaly I think they have great costumer sevice, though this may only be because I grew up and went to school with some of them. I will agree that there prices are high, but they sell there products at these prices every day. I'm blown away when I'm in there and I see someone come in and drop 90+ grand on mods and not blink an eye

Take a second and look at Tazzman's dyno...zoom in on it...check out the a/f curve...notice his dropping boost curve which is what the autothority chips take into account for.

But hey, do what you want...its your car. Just keep your attitude in check if you want our help.

Dmoffitt,
checked your P-caronline profile. One thing caught my eye, one of these winter pics. Just noticed your car has excately the same rear silencer as my car. I have never figured out who is the manufacturer. Do you have any information concerning that ???

that was an ansa.

re: my "POS" i'm not one to brag about my car or list my mods in my sig, but frankly it would blow your car away in every aspect possible (handling, performance, stopping, etc). ask anyone who has a CLUE about half of the things i'm doing with that car...

perhaps you should realize i said what i said cuz i'm trying to help - i burnt a valve because of how lean those stupid chips are, ask danno why he wrote his guru chips (kept going thru headgaskets i believe).

if you want to be a [moderator deleted], so be it, i was merely amazed / ammused that you blatantly ignored that dyno and people's relevant posts.... why bother asking in the first place.

oh, and eurospeed - plz don't take what i'm about to say as an insult - but consider this: excellent customer service doesn't make up for shoddy workmanship or design -- hence why cars like hyundai might have great warranties but still [moderator changed] stink..

Well, I do take it as an insult. You know nothing about the company, the people that work there or the majority of the products they make. There 944 turbo products make up a very small percentage of there sales. They have not put any development into there products for these cars for a long time. They spend there time on newer cars. NOW, I HAVE BEEEN ON THIS BOARD A LONG TIME AND HAVE YET TO GET INTO ONE OF THESE STUPID FIGHTS. Just grow up kid. The guy asked aabout the chips. People responded. He made a decision. THATS IT! Move on with your life and stop playing that little "my car's faster than your car" game. Next time, take the time to do some reasearch on a company before you try and flame them. HA, I can't wait to show them tomorrow that some little 944 Turbo owner compared them to a Hyundai. HA,HA,HA!
