I think you need to fix the issue with water getting into the DME area first then move from there.

The process used to solder the DME boards used a no-clean flux. That means flux will still be on the boards. If water gets on the flux, it tries to go into solution and causes a bit of a mess.

Need to show a picture but I am guessing that is what you are seeing, The alcohol will get rid of it. Might have to rub it with a acid bush to get it good and clean. Make sure you are grounded for ESD reasons before cleaning the board.

Cleaned, plugged in and running.

I'm letting it idle while me and dad change a gasket on the Ute, to see if we notice any change.

Idle is around 800 rpm. AFR is 12.4. the tach hasn't bounced yet.

Solved

Thanks Brian & Josh for pointing to me that you can clean electronics with pure alcohol. Looks like that problem may be solved.

86 951 Driver, I noticed water (a lake) around my fues box (RHD Remember) and realised that caused the water to get into the DME area. got the compressor and just cleaned out the drain and all the water just pissed out.

to all

Can guarantee it's not your battery tray leaking (being a RHD 952 with battery in boot/trunk) but you really need to find where the water is getting in. A trick I have used in other cars is to draw a line with a water based texta(marker) across the panel area effected(horizontally). Then hit the car with a hose or wait till it rains, and then when you check line, you will see where the water is leaking across the line, helping you to narrow down the entry point

haha, there's a drain hole, easily seen. you could fit your finger in it but don't LOL! i was stuck for 2 min trying to get it back out. But i felt a lot of dirt so we blew it out. and solved the issue. It's the 2nd time i found water there. But i hope i solved that.

That's how i cooked my Kicker 4.350 amp in the boot. but that water leak issue is solved also.

That was an easy fix, nice one.

By the way, isn't alcohol also used to clean boards in old cell phones?

No idea, never heard of using alcohol for cleaning boards.

I tried it on my amp, no luck
