Post Using 5/45 brake regulator

Has anyone used the 5/45 regulator with S4 front brakes and standard 951 rear brakes? I tried the 5/33 regulator with the 951 front brakes at the rear with S4's in front, but was getting rear lock-up at low speeds. I went to the standard rear brake, but with the 5/33 regulator, don't get much rear braking. So I'm thinking of trying the 5/45 regulator. I read a post where someone was using Big Reds with standard rear brakes plus the 5/45 regulator, but the S4's are smaller, and I may end up with too much at the back again. I don't want to go to a variable regulator at this point. Anyone done the 5/45 for track use?

With the S4 front and Stock 951 rear brakes,5/33 bar regulator is just right. For Track.

If you go with the 5/45 unit, it may be a bit too much rear bias, especially in the wet.

I intially upgraded my 87 951 with the S4 fronts. 5/33 bar unit proved just right for track.

When I upgraded to the Big Red front, I had to go with the 5/45 bar unit.

Have you run the car at the track with the 5/33 bar unit ?

I have a 5/55 on my car...i cant remember the application, but it was either 911 or 928.

with BRs in front and 255/275 slicks, the balance is quite good. I would be careful with pad selection, and avoid super high torque stuff...usually advertised as short track, or autocross compounds...becuase they tend not only to be more prone to lock up, they are also much harder to get rolling again after they have locked up.

Best pad for my money is the PFC 93 compound....you could experiment with the 90 on the rear, but the 93 is ...as the saying goes...the dogs *****.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll stick with the 5/33 for now. I've been using Hawk Hp Plus pads, and I got a lot of fade at Watkins Glen. I have a set of Ferodo racing which a number of people use around here, so that's the next step. In any case, the car is hibernating until April, so I won't be able to test it for now. It's a track car that is driven to and from the track. Funny thing - the faster I go, the worse the brakes seem to get. Again, thanks for the advice.

I use 275-17 or 285-18 all around

PFC 93 brake pads front and rear.

Good luck.
