Post source for steering rack

Any suggestions for where I can get a reasonable price for a well-rebuilt steering rack with new tie rods for a Turbo S?

Zims is by far the cheapest (although I needed to buy two to get a good one...)

Meridian sells completely remanufactured (better than new) racks for about the same price as a rebuilt or used rack. They're also great to deal with!! To compare prices, call Griffiths Technical; they also make remanufactured racks. It's pretty much a no-brainer.

Hey - I probably need one too. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to pay?

According to his website, Marcus Blaszak is still rebuilding them. Current price is $225 USD with a one year warranty I believe. I'll probably be sending my leaky spare out to him soon. bill

The lifetime warranty is what sold me as well. Try to get a rebuilt rack with that! I'm glad they were able to help. This is, in my opinion, one of the most valuable aspects of Rennlist. Thank you again John!

WOW THAT'S FANTASTIC!!!

I have'nt hardly driven my car in the last 3 months since the leak started. It went from no leak to leaking a full reservoir in 1 days driving (25miles). I was under the impression that it was about $800 or $900 to replace it! This is great news. I don't know where I got the idea that it was so expensive.

Unfortuntely that's what I paid a mechanic to replace the steering rack on my 968. I was charged ~$600 for the ZF rebuilt rack and another $300 for installation...at least I had a buddy who could align the car for free. Meridian really sounds like a cool place to buy a steering rack from. Now that my 944 rack is leaking I REALLY didn't want to dump $900 into a replacement again.

Very timely post!! I have a leaky rack on the driver's side--mine too went from no leak to huge puddle in about a week. I was going to put off the repair(when I crawled beneath to check out the leak, I noticed my radiator is leaking, and the belts could also use a freshening ) But for 300 bucks, I will probably just go ahead and order a rebuilt and be done with it. I love Rennlist

Exclamation

when i was on the phone with Griffiths talking about a rebuilt rack, which btw was alot more than $290 (about double!) he reccommended replacing the p/s reservoir bottle too because of some sort of 'horse hair' filter in the bottom of it that goes bad... When i talked to Chuck at Paragon, he too said that was a good idea. Their price for it is $25.71. Just FYI

Paragon also have an updated inlet line that clears the belts (mine'd been replaced with generic hose cut from a reel for this purpose). In anycase, I figgured it can't hurt to completely R&R the PS system.. (also going with Meridian... FWIW, they sell the short rack (no tie-rods) for the above mentioned price, add $60 if you want new tie-rods (long rack).

The pump is $225 + $175 in core charges. They cover the shipping for the return of cores (nice touch).

I like the idea of a group purchase... As for the hose cleaning up the ends - I really couldn't tell you - mine's sitting in my 'to be installed' box (which is getting fairly empty as of late). I'd have to go look, but I believe it's a Porsche updated part - in which case it was updated for a reason....

*shrugs*

Has anyone posted anything to the e-mail lists or the main watercooler forum? I guess we ought to contact the company and see if they're interested too (and what sort of minimum would be required for any sort of discount, and what type of discount we'd be talking about).
