Post Cobras

I can confirm the fact that those cobras are wimps. I had the same experience with one at a stop light. He sat there revving his engine and looking over at me so when the light turned green I nailed it and totally blew his doors off with my stock 87 with 160K on it. I even had him in first gear. Can't wait till I get my spare engine rebuilt and some modifications done.

What year was the cobra? I raced a new M3 and I lost by about one car length in fourth. I had him from second to fourth until the end of fourth. The new M3 would get destroyed by the new cobra so, I still have some work to do.

The cobra was a 2002 model. Maybe the guy couldn't handle it?

They are pretty respectable when the driver is competent. Ford finally got the IRS right and I've seen drivers cut high 12 sec. times with nothing but 4.10 gears and exhaust.. The '03 models with the blower are scary, but they're also heavy.. I think about 3600 lbs with that iron block and such..

I have run 2 Cobras on the freeway. Both were cocky and instigated the run.

The first encounter was when G96 and I were returning home after Speedforce Racing installed my new turbo/maf/tial. It was late and the guy pulled along side then romped on it. I was running at 65mph and just rolled on the throttle in fifth. Got 2 car lengths by 120mph before I shut it down. This did not satisfy the stang. Next he dropped back 4 lengths then tried to get a run on me. This time I dropped into fourth and pulled to somewhere above 155. Got at least 8 lengths on him. He finally pulled along side, gave the "I'm not worthy sign and exited". G96 got a litte quiet after the second run.

The next Cobra sounded supercharged and it was a convertable. It was just before rush hour and this guy had the top down with a chick next to him. He also pulled next to me and "made a lot of noise". Pretty sad. So again I rolled him in fifth. Suprisingly we stayed pretty even. I did not run him again as the road was not clear of traffic. After thinking about how strong that car was, I realized that my AC was on, DOH!

I have to agree emphatically, although the prior models are very respectable, the supercharged '03 has over 400hp from the factory, and is faster than the Z06. 1 year can make a phenominal difference. I've looked at them on numerous occasions at the local SVT dealer at would give just about anything to drive away in one, but it's hard to justify a toy for $40,000.

Last weekend I saw a '03 supercharged cobra hit 354 rwhp on a dyno. Swapped out the exhaust for a aftermarket unit and hit 404 rwhp. The guy said that he paid 34k for the car.

34 grand wouldn't be a bad price; in Wisconsin however, there is a $3500 markup for "market adjustment."

Bill, you say you hit 155 in fourth? What was your tach reading? Also, what mods do you have?

Cool

Speaking of Stangs, I just got my new MoTrend in the mail today. They test the new Mach 1. 0-60 in 5.3sec, 1/4 mile: 13.8@102.5 for a measly $31K.

I'll take my $12K '89 anyday!

I don't know much 'bout Stangs.......BUT, I think I say the big poppa of them at a local SVT car show a month or so ago.

It was a newer body style BOSS mustang. I believe that it was a factory car, obviously a VERY limited production if so.

It had a BLOWN 429 in it!! This sucker made over 800hp!!!

It had some literature on the window that stated the performance stats. I cannot remember the 1/4 mile time now for some reason, but the 0-60 time posted was in the 2's!! Yeah that's right TWO's!!

It had side exhaust pipes. The guy started it when I wasn't paying attention and literally made me jump back about 2 feet.

That's one Stang I don't think I would want to wrassle with.
I have humbled a few Cobras, Saleens and a Steeda(?) Mustang before though
