The belt broke when the engine was exactly at TDC. So the cam gear stopped right at TDC, which happens to be a point in which none of the valves are all the way down. I believe it is the only point in time which you can turn the crank over and not hit any valves.... at least in a turbo motor with slightly more valve clearance.
It's happened to me once before on another 951, and to a couple customers prior to that on 951's also. So, as soon as I peered in the inspection hole and saw that timing mark lined up, I knew I was just in for a simple roadside belt change.

Bump...? Just noticed this the motor with the Itb's on another location. Wondered if anyone has any knowledge of the Smith Motorworks cars. Wonder how that front mount 968 is holding up?
