Where to get Bilsteins revalved
I just got a set of Bilstein coil-overs for my '87 951 and I need to get them revalved prior to installation. Is my best option to send them to Bilstein directly? Also, has anyone done this recently and if so, do you have an address or phone #. Thanks.

I'm curious why you would need to get these revalved? Are they new?
I am looking at these struts/shocks for my '86 951 which is a street/light track duty car.
Front
AK-1120 Threaded Body with Valving 600/190
AK-1121 Threaded Body with Valving 600/190
Rear
AK-37354 Threaded Body with Valving 565/218
Thanks,
MDW

I have a different address for Bilstein:
Bilstein
14102 Stowe Drive
Poway, CA 92064
800-537-1085
Talk with Jack.
The part numbers I have for these threaded body struts are AK1110A, AK1111A. The recommendation I got for valving a street car with 250# springs was 160/112. This was called the "heavy duty" setup and is way different from the off the shelf settings of ~370/180.
I just bought these struts, and have sent the shocks off to be re-valved for 28mm tbars. Hopefully with all these valving and spring rate changes, the ride will be what I am looking for. Firm, well controlled, and good for the twistie roads during my commute to work.
I find it interesting that the off the shelf valving of Bilstein rear shocks with stock t-bars is 148/112. Seems that for street use the compression is very soft compared to the track oriented settings.
I am in uncharted territory for myself. Should be an education! I may wear out my seat of the pants shock dyno in the process.

Thanks to all for your responses. I got a set of custom-bilt coil-overs from a friend who had them cutom-built by AutoSystems Group out here near DC. When they took them off (my friend is upgrading to the remote reservoir setup), they suggested that the shocks should be revalved based on the wear they observed.
They are are a Koni threaded body with a Bilstein insert, which is what I need to send out for revalving. I contacted Bilstein at the 800 number everyne suggested, and I'm good to go.
Now I want to get the solid mounts for the top on the fronts, like only Kelly Moss used to make for about $700. I saw a clone of these recently in Panorama for anbout $400, so I'd be interesated whether anyone else has found any for a better price. Thanks!

If you're talking about the camber/caster plates you may want to try ground control in Northern CA(www.ground-control.com)($295.00 ?)Looks to me like they make them for others .... ? I've got 'em and they're great.

So you had Bilstein strut-inserts in a Koni strut? Interesting.... Are these the P30-0104 Heavy Duty inserts you're having re-valved? And what kind of valving are you specifying for what spring rate?

I thought Bilsteins were lifetime warranty?
Dan, which inserts did you buy for the front. Mark at shox.com just said that with my kyb rears i would be best matched up with the bilsteins. I need to replace the fronts on my car and the n/a that my brother is now driving!

Hey Andrew,
I used the Bilstein inserts P30-0104 on converted '82-86 944NA to fit my 951. They worked great on 200lb/in springs. I've since gone to 350lb/in springs and they're a little soft on rebound. So I may just have them revalved like Jay did.

The Bilstein inserts are the thick diameter racing version, and have the following numbers stamped at the top: 03199150, 114972
They were adapted (via welding a hat I think) to a Koni turbo S double adjustable coil-over unit by a guy at Autothority. I'm getting them revalved for the same (600lb) spring rate due to wear noted during the de-install. This is the same setup my friend had on his '89 951 where these came from.
The rears (standard Bilstein coil-vers) look fine, and I don't think I need to have them revalved anyway, even though the car these came off of had 30mm torsion bars and I only have 29s. Since I'll get a higher helper spring rate, the overall evfective spring rate will be the same, and the exiting vavling should be fine. Any comments are appreciated.

Danno,
how about you go buy some new bilsteins with the valving you want and sell me your old ones.
I am thinking abut geting the KYBs to put on my brother's car. then i can see how they feel. I checked the list and those who have them say they work fine. So, i'll give them a shot, they are cheap enough! Used ones for 40 bucks! And they will exchange them at the parts store for new ones! I love lifetime warranties.

Jay, I'm still having a hard time figuring out how the Bilstein insert was converted for use with the Koni housing. Could you post a picture? Thanks.

Andrew, the KYB inserts should work fine for you as well. I bought a set from Mark @ shox.com too. They work great for a street car with stock spring rates. But they were a little soft for my track usage, so I got the Bilsteins.
