well, you can use it as both a BOV or a CBV. Depends on where you hook up the outlet. The inlet to the valve comes from the intercooler pipe right before the throttle-body just like the stock valve. Then at the bottom you can plumb it back into the turbo-intake, or just dump it out to the atmosphere. You can do this with the stock valve as well.
But you can't hook it up as a BOV unless you're measuring the air after the valve. That is, having your MAF sensor installed right before the throttle-body and after the BOV. Either that, or you can use a MAP sensor off the intake-manifold with an aftermarket EFI system. Either of these cases would allow you to meter the correct amount of fuel after dumping excess boost to the atmosphere.
Sure the sound may be cool at first and may make you feel like McRae wannabes, but it gets old and annoying after a while.

I too installed a Forge 007P valve recently since the Bosch one wouldn't hold over 10psi boost. I purchased the "track" and "street" springs as well, but haven't noticed a difference between the two yet on the street. Only drawback I can forsee of the stiffer track spring is that it might not allow the valve to open quickly enough.
Anyone else with the Forge valve tried the different springs?
Upgrading the bypass valve was just one step I've taken to cure a low boost problem.
I still can't get over 14psi boost, but that's another story...
