'89 944 Turbo S
Hi guys,
I am a regular on 964 and 965 boards, but I thought I ask the experts on 944 Turbos board.
Is there such car as an '89 944 Turbo S (US Production model)? I know that there was an '88 Turbo S mid year, with 250hp stock.
I want to know because I might be looking for one as a daily driver in the future.
Thanks, <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

NO,,the 89 Model was just a 1989 944 turbo. However, it had all the upgrades from the 88 "S" model but they were standard in 89. 250 hp, LSD, ABS, of course dual airbags,,etc.
There was also an extra chip space in the 89 computers or so I heard. Porsche never used it but it had to be for something in planning...any ideas out there or is this true?

Ski, the 89 turbo DME has some more pins on it (the chip that we all replace when we wanna go fasta)...I think 2 or 4 extra pins...I forget...anyway I believe the 88 turbo S has the same extra pins.
All info others said is correecct :-D
I think the 88 turbo S's had more stuff as optional than the 89's...like power seats, etc...not positive on that one.

So you know, the Canadian model in ´89 didn't come with airbags. In 1990 they did put airbags in though, along with the 968 rear wing. The ´89 had just as many options as the '88 S, along with all the standard upgrades.

Hi all,
Thanks you guys. That was what I thought. But if you look at the Pando's magazine you will see ads with '89 944 Turbo S listed.
One more question. How good is a 944 Turbo as a daily driver assume that it has been maintained regularly?
Thanks, <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Thanks for the info. I bought my 89 951 out in Edmonton last August. I was wondering about the fact that it has no air bags (not necessarily a bad thing IMO). I figured the original owner had spec'd it that way.
