My directions don't mention the shim at all...

In fact, the only thing my directions say is to use a resurfaced flywheel and to break in the clutch with "normal everyday driving before full throttle engagement".

Uh... sure thing. They know it's going in a race car. How exactly is this supposed to happen?

Anyway... I bought the complete package from them, flywheel to clutch slave for a C5 bell housing... and nobody seems to know if the shim is needed or not.

Also... they said the clutch was balanced, but I see no orientation marks on the flywheel and pressure plate nor do I see any evidence of balancing.

You are making this way more difficult than it is. Put the assembly together and check for yourself.

Because I have to completely assemble the clutch and slave, bleed it, then potentially have to rip it all out and do it again.

That's why,...

OK... After looking where I should have look previously... on the forums that deal with C5's using Spec flywheels and clutches... I found the answer.

With a C5 bell housing you don't use the spacer. With a F body car, you do.

If you are using some other bell housing, you will need to assemble and measure to see if you need a spacer, and and if so, what that thickness should be.

Update...

Someone emailed me the Spec installation instructions (which for some reason I didn't get)....

And the above is correct.

With a C5 bell housing, you do not use the spacer.

With a F body, you do use the spacer.

Any other application, you measure.

I have the Spec stage 2 clutch and their lightweight flywheel. I'm running the quicktime bellhousing, not sure if the spacer is in there or not...

I posted the dims to the modded C5 TOB on 944Hybrids. It has exactly 1.00" throw when mounted up. It needs NO spacer with factory clutch components when my adapter plate is used as I designed it to mimick the C5 Torque Tube exactly. I have no idea about the QT BH as it has no C5 TO bearing seat machined into it (from the pics I've seen anyways).
This is the only one I mod for the swap...
