Post Aligning a 1989 Turbo 944

Does someone have good instructions on the best way to align a turbo 944 ? Not the specific settings, but the best/proper way to adjust the settings. The car is race only.

(1) How to adjust front camber ?
(2) How to adjust front castor ?
(3) How to adjust front toe - I assume just loosen the tie rods and move in/out as needed...

(4) How to adjust rear camber ?
(5) How to adjust rear toe ?

Also - on other cars I have done like a 930, adjusting the rear camber also changes the toe. Does this also happen on a 951 or are the addjustments independent ? If they do change each other, what is the easiest best way to do it quickly ?

Thanks,
Norm

Factory recommendations:

1. Set ride height, if required (affects alignment.)

2. Corner balance, if desired (may affect alignment.)

3. Center steering wheel and measure/adjust rear alignment:

3a. Adjust rear camber. Loosen stabilizer suspension and screw connection between shock and control arm. Adjust to specified value by turning the camber eccentric.

3b. Adjust rear toe. Adjust the toe by moving the control arms in the slots on the spring strut. Use special tool 9171.

4. Measure/adjust front wheel alignment:

4a. Adjust the camber. The camber is adjusted by turning the eccentric screw on the base of the strut. Avoid damaging the brake line.

4b. Adjust the caster. Remove belly pans. Undo self-locking hex nuts. Adjust to specified value by turning caster eccentric. Torque hex nuts 85 N-m.

4c. Adjust the toe. Center steering gear with special tool 9116 (tapered bolt in steering rack.) Clamp steering wheel at the middle postiion and adjust the tie rods. The toe difference angle cannot be adjusted, it can only be influenced by replacing the control arms. Don't forget to remove special tool 9116. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

HTH. Sounds like adjusting the rear camber does influence the toe.

Yup, you loosen the same adjuster to do both toe and camber. This is typically done at the same time anyway.

I always use the above procedure to select an alignment shop. If they don't say you have to align the rear first, I go somewhere else.
