The G50 option price has gone up a lot... the kit-car guys have been buying up the turbo boxes (which is the only G50 unit you would want to use anyway)...

The 968 gear box was a Audi based unit as well that was modified for the 968 application however all of the internals of those transaxles use the G50 parts. In other words the size of the main shafts, differential, input shaft, gears etc... are all the same size. You can use the parts in either - or in other words. So whatever G50 gears and limited slip diff setups you see for sale out there you can use in the 968 transaxle! Its a small world when it comes to the automotive industry and they try to use much of the same parts in as many applicatons as possible this is a good business practice saves them money!!!

It's the same 6 spd box in audi's of the same vintage ... you can use the audi box with some mods and they are easier to find ...
