"In an '87 or 88' issue of Automobile magazine, the magazine featured an article pitting the 944 Turbo S2(Yes, S2, w/16v head) against a 930 turbo. From what I recall, it was an interesting read - the 951 beat the 930 in just about every test."

Was it this article?

944 TurboS vs. 930 page-11-12

Given that the 944 TurboS pretty much kicked the 930's *** in outright performance (2-sec/lap @ Willow Springs is about 1 football-field ahead per lap), a 944 TurboS2 with 4-valve heads would have completely killed it. Gains from a 4-valve head are typically 20-30% for the same displacement all else being equal.

Danno,
No, that wasn't the aricle... It wasn't a road test, it was an article talking about both cars and comparing their specs.

Agreed. Just leave out the 986 as the continuation of that line. Our cars obviously have no relation to the marketing-generated little roadster with zero racing heritage AKA the Boxster.

P.S. Transaxle: I enjoyed your page.

I don't know any official 16V 944 turbo from Porsche. Even the 968 turbo S and RS used the 951-style 8V head.

Somebody told me, Porsche developed some 16V prototype engines at that time, but they never made it into a production car. Would be great to get some information about that article....

Yes, I want to see the article about the 16 valve factory 944 turbo production prototype!

I've always said I would love to get a 968 and turbo charge it. I have also read as it seems many others in here have, that guys are getting 450-500hp easily with turbo 968.

I love the body parts of the 944GTP. I have been contemplating putting the GT scoop on my hood, but on the proper side for our intake. I want it to look good though, so not in a rush. I love the silver intakes in the fog light holes. What are those intake for??? Intercooler? Brake ducts??? I rarely use my fog lights now. Might be something I will look into.

The intakes are used to cool down the breaks. There are large advantages in breaking performance on the race track, if you cool the brakes actively.

Take a look at the intercooler too. It's all intercooler you can see behind the body-holes. Three times larger than stock.

Does anyone have any info on the 951 that ran in the 24 hours of Daytona a few years ago. I know Excellence ran an artical on it.
