I'm not really one to say.....but I have been told for street purposes....no....two of those no's were from folks who have them, they said it's not worth the expense.

Does a ball bearing turbo last longer or just work more efficiently? Thanks for the reply Booster. <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

I am buying the option;

Fast spool-up, durability, etc.
Look under catalog,turbochargers and accessories, ball bearing option for info.

All I know is that Huntley could have made more money off me by selling the ball-bearing option, and they told me it wasn't really necessary for my application. So I happily spent less money and bought the standard bearing turbo! I think that speaks volumes...

Kool,

To answer your question I would say no unless you are a professional racer. Keep in mind that 90% of all ball bearing turbos are single sided. Meaning the bearings are only on one side of the shaft. The garrett GT25 series is a true full cartridge ball bearing turbo. It has BB on both ends of the shaft. I have been told by garrett that they will produce about a 6% reduction in spool uptime. As to the reliability -vs- a non BB turbo I think the jury is still out on that. Certalnley the manufactures are not making such claims that I know of. All turbos will benefit from proper care and feeding, clean oil, cool intake air, water reciculation, proper intercooler sizing and running in the optimum efficiency range etc. I had my heart set on the GT25 but the cost of modifications quickly reduced the 6% benefit. I ended up with old reliable bolt on K27/6. If it was good for Porsche that worked for me.

Luke,

I have a cat test tube and a free flow exhaust and I get full boost 17 psi at 3400 rpm.

wow, I guess that isn't too bad. I also have a test pipe and free enough exhaust to crap fire (2 resonators). My 26/6 made full boost @ 2900rpm.
I am hoping my stage one SFR turbo will make 17lbs @ 2500

My Full blown SFR T66 Ballbearing with "P" trim hotside makes 5psi boost at 2600rpm. This turbo is big, bigger than the turbo on the cummings turbo! Yet it makes boost faster and harder than a stocker K26!

I bought my turbo from Scott Gomes and he told me the same as one other noted, not needed for my application. I would have gladly spent the money. Felt even better about saving it.
