Question Safe to rise boost without new chip?

I have a Turbo S with a K27/8 turbo and a free flow exhaust. I'm at stock boost level and I currently don't have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Would it be safe for me get an AFPR and rise the boost to about 0,90 - 0,99 bar?
Or do I need to get a new pair of chip's to be on the safe side!?

Also, would it be any different if I had a K26/8 turbo? (a friend's car)

I have an '86 951 with a dual port wastegate and I have run it up to 20psi and still been rich under WOT (i will be getting chips). It hits the fuel cutoff without chips when high boost is held at high rpms.
Get an A/F meter before you go screwing with the boost. Run lean and you'll blow a gasket.

Just bought an Autometer A/F guage and a large boost guage an hour ago

Do you know how much boost you can run before it cuts of fuel?

Each car is a smidge different. Hook up the air/fuel meter, the boost gauge and see what happens under load. If you're still going full rich then you can safely increase boost pressure a bit. If you start to lean out, then you're boosting too high.

HTH!

Do you really have a K27/8 in your TurboS? Then most likely you've already have some custom chips in there since the flow patterns of the K27/8 is completely different from a K26/8. Adjusting fuel-pressure won't work because you'll end up with some real rich spots in the RPM-range, while others will be too lean...

I've got a K26/27 hybrid, does it also have a completely different flow pattern?
