968 M030 Sways-- Are they worth it?

the three holes sound like the 19mm M030 rear, unless others had it, which I don't think is the case. Take a tape measure and get the circumference, divide by pi.
the bars and my strut brace have transformed my otherwise stock 951, very good upgrade, on par with chips.

Hate to be a contrarian here, but I've always thought of sway bars as more of a 'balance' tool than an effective means of controlling roll or 'improving' handling.
I always been taught that proper handling (roll control, bump/rebound control, etc) should essentially be a job of the shock/spring combo. Use the correct spring/shock rates, and then use the smallest bars possible to 'tweak' the balance. (under/oversteer)
You shouldn't be using big bars as a stop-gap to support an otherwise under sprung/dampened car.
Anyway... my .02c

4ppl are interested thus far... i'm looking to get roughly 400+s/h as these have less than 100mi of use on them, and i paid a bit under 600 when you factor in bars, delrin bushings, bushing-carriers, etc etc...
i don't wanna hijack this thread, so please email me: dmoffitt@rochester.rr.com with an offer.
btw Raagi, i know exactly what you're saying - but it's not like you're talking about putting a set of $1200 kokeln bars on that are psycho-tweakable, the m030 imo improves handling a decent bit, doesn't cost half of what new shocks/struts do, and for most people who aren't racing hard-core competatively, frankly, that is what it comes down to: "can i put on something to make my car more fun to drive in the twisties without spending a fortune" - this coming from the wrong person i suppose w/ what i'm doing w/ my car... but, i think that's a pretty good arguement in favor of these sway bars (hell, it's why i bought them in the first place. i can't help it that my new car already has a fully setup suspension ).

To chime in on what dmoffitt is saying... Also keep in mind that M030 bars were designed with a stock-ish 944 suspension in mind. They're designed to work with these spring rates more or less. Now if you're trying to solve a problem that 400# springs are meant to handle, then yes, bigger sway bars aren't going to be the solution.

$299 for the front is a good price. A few weeks ago they were bumped up to $500, so I bought one on eBay (new) for $350. Figures.
Installation is a breeze. I haven't had a chance to push the car to its limits since installing, but it feels rock solid through the twisties near my house.

yeah, they were 499 for the front alone when i bought them (the prices i quoted were current. i got raped)...
a few nights ago at 4am, i pushed my car through some very agressive corners on a 4-lane highway that goes around here (using the whole road, apexing every turn quite agressively) and easily felt confident at well over the speed limit *ssshhhhhh*
the only reason i didnt push it harder thru the turns is that i was on snow tires (dunlop wintersport m2, pretty decent h-rated tires, good enough in the dry) on nice narrow little phone dials. (i'm usually far more responsible, but either way the car felt like it was at 8 or 9 tenths and felt like it's got much more left to give before breaking loose). that same corner i felt scared at least 20mph slower before the bars...

Speaking of M030 components, don't forget to upgrade the caster mount blocks at the rear of the control arms at the same time to get the full effect. It makes a bigger difference than you would think.
As for the bars themselves, yes, its a "must do" as far as I am concerned.
Regards,

I have a question regarding suspension balance. It seems like Porsche dialed in successively more understeer for the street cars:
951 86: 22.5 solid or 24 mm hollow front, 18 mm solid rear
944 87-early 89: M404 25.4 mm hollow front, 18 mm rear; M030 25.4 hollow front, 20 mm solid rear
951 87- early 89: stock 25.4 mm hollow front, 18 mm solid rear; M030 26.8 mm hollow front, 18 mm solid rear
944 M030/951/944S2/968 non-M030 late 89-95: 26.8 mm hollow front, 16 mm solid rear
968 M030: 30 mm hollow front, 19 mm solid adjustable rear
944 Turbo Cup (?) 30 mm hollow front, 22 mm solid adjustable rear
My point is that the most agressive set-ups had either 25.4 mm front/20 mm rear (87-88 M030) or 30 mm front/ 22 mm rear (Turbo Cup). The later street cars had more understeer dialed in, including the 968 M030 (30 mm front, 19 mm rear.)
I think that I will keep my 26.8 mm front bar and add the 968 M030 19 mm adjustable rear bar to balance out my car. There is considerable understeer with the stock 16 mm rear bar. The best upgrade would be the Turbo Cup/Welt 30 mm front/22 mm rear, but that should not be necessary in a street car.

Have any of you done what Waterguy is suggesting? Is the car nicely balanced with the stock bars in the front and the M030's in back?

This is what I paid 1 week ago for a set of M030 sway bars:

Sunset Imports charges cost +15% handling. That's the best price for OEM parts.
I've also compiled a big-brake package based on prices from them. You can find details (including Sunset's url) at:
