Modified but still reliable....is it possible?
After lurking aroung this very great web site for over a year, I am finally in a position to start shopping for a 951 (thank you god). I found one relatively near to me, which isn't easy when you live in Kansas, but it has some modifications. Huntley stage 3 MAF, ARC-2 fuel controller, MSD ignition, Linsey boost enhancer, Lindsey SS turbo, remote crankcase breather, stage 2 chips, port matched intake, and a free flow exhaust, at least those are the major ones he listed to me. Timing chain was done two years but only four thousand miles ago, compression is 150 on three and 149 on the fourth, and the owner claims about 320 horsepower and that the car runs great. Finally, he did the work, and all of this info is from him. Sorry about rambling, to cut to the chase, would this be a suitable daily driver, or is it just a bit too much? And yes Justin, if you're reading this, it is your car, I just wanted some opinions. Thanks everybody, Matt

Porsche 944 turbos were built to run and run good. I may be new to this forum but the modifications that this guy is running seem to be all balanced out. With the ARC-2 fuel controller, you can have excellent gas mileage, and have awesome power. If the compression is that good, then the engine must be running really good. If he has the documentation to back this up and the modifications then wow...
How much is he asking for it? and were is it located? Also if the timing chain has been done 4 thousand miles ago then that is also a plus.
The big thing when shopping for a 951 is to make sure that it is in good condition and can be driven as a daily driver.
Has this guy made the car for track or street.
Well thats my 2 cents, hope it helps

Those compression numbers are great, so if the car drives fine, I'd say its a well kept car. As to whether or not its a suitable (and "inexpensive") daily driver, I'd have to defer to my colleagues with modified cars. I'm keeping mine stock for a while, or at least until I get a daily beater/driver.
Also, our precious cars have timing belts, not timing chains, although I'm sure that was just a brain fart on your end.
Hope you get one, they're quite fun to drive!

Chain, sorry, I was paying more attention to listing the car's modifications. I haven't recieved a response as to whether or not the claims are documented, or if original parts are included, though he didn't mention anything of this sort. I just wanted to know if the extra power, which is by no means a bad thing, could cause more trouble than it's worth on a daily driver.

The extra power is basically what it means, "extra power". Turbos have to spool up before you can gain this extra power. By adding the upgrades the guy has listed, you would be running basically a stock engine, untill you would get on it. Then you would have more horsepower, more torque and more fun
So running around city travel, then engine is exactly the same but now it sounds better, breaths better, and burns better.
So go for it. Porsche 944 turbos are awesome, but the real power is when the turbo actually kicks in.

i've got a built 2.8L w/ a bigger turbo and quite a few other things, expecting over 400hp to the rear wheels... but it's still a very streetable daily driver (minus what's going on suspension/chassis wise, but that's another story). off boost it's not too torquey, of course when that turbo spools it runs like a raped-ape... so you've got streetability and performance, that's the fun part of a turbocharged car.
good luck w/ the new 951 <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Those mods are very minimal. If there are no apparent leaks now and he's had them on the car for a while then the seals are holding and should hold in the future. Don't ever worry about streetability. I believe I have the fastest street legal 951 in the country and it drives like a kitten. But I paid to have it drive that way as well. All Powerhaus. I touch nothing on it. Worth every penny. I even have a warranty like a new car, which it is. How much are you paying for it?

The owner is asking $9800. Thanks to everybody that responded, the car sounded too good, I just wanted a reality check. Hopefully I can make it work. Matt

I have a not so good pic at Powerhaus.com. Click on "HOT" and there's a little bit about my car and a dyno showing the crazy numbers. As far as What I have invested...I am almost embarrassed to admit how much I have invested. I don't, uh, I should say can't (LOL) do much any of the work on it so I have to result in working my but off to pay someone else to do it. But this way I got the whole package that's been researched to work all together and I got a warranty to boot. But it did cost a hell of a lot of money over the last seven years.

Onewhippedlittlepuppy,
Man, only $9800 for the car. That is a really good price with all of those upgrades. And if the car is in really good condition, then you could get a excellent 944 turbo.
DFASTEST951,
Hey man, that is a sweet ride. I would deffinately have to say that that is the best/fastest looking car i have ever seen. Good Job. And keep up the good work.
