Hate to be a nag, but 951 vs rx7
i'm asking because someone jsut brought to my attention how much the 951 might be to maintain, but I like the looks/performance per dollar, so the next best thing would be a 2nd gen rx7 turbo. So, what would be better as a daily driver
***Note, let it be the rx7, or the 951, i'm planning on keeping this car for about 3-6 months, and then sell it....****

Lets see, lives in LI and what the car for 3-6 months. Sounds like you need wheels for the summer. Why not get a clean 944 or S2? Less maintance.
I still own a first generation RX-7 n/a and they are dependable cars. I have mods that allows my shift point to be as high as 10K RPM. I have been doing this for years running with those pesty 5.0L ponies and not one engine problem to date.
If you are looking for performance, I would think that you would want to go to third generation to match the performance of a 951.

I had a 2nd gen RX-7 and it was a lot of fun. Main prblem BRAAAAAKES
It was fun to drive and cheap. I modified mine a bit with the usual HKS goodies and it was quick. However, there was still the brake issue. I'd toast a set of braks in one day at the track.
If you are thinking of a 3rd gen did I mention brakes before? Same deal. Except cost, I went through 2 engines and 3 sets of turbos. It was wickedly fast as set up, $$$$$$, but non dependable. The dealer had it more than I did the first year.
Decide what you really want and save for it. You'll be happier in the end.

I had heard that third generation had problems with the Turbo, something about cooling them too fast at the factory after they tested them. Two engines and three Turbos....Ouch.

I had a 2nd gen and so did a freind at work. We both had bad FLOODING issues. You cant' jsut move the car and turn it off before the engine warms up. (you'll have to push start it, if you do!)
BTW, If you are looking at a 3rd gen, make sure it isn't a 93'. THey had about 3 dozen serious recalls and were responsible for burning down several homes
