Default 6.5 speakers in early car

I searched a have not found a definitive answer. I rece.ntly put round 6.5 speakers in the rear of my 89 na and would like to now put them in my 86 951 am I going to pull that panel off and find the same plate that can be removed to fit a 6.5 or is it different in an early car like I feel I've heard before?

Thanks

I'm interested to know as well?

also, do you have to remove the rear quarter glass to access, some have said yes but I saw then remove interior on "wheeler dealers" and it looked like he had access to the speakers and those windose still in place

I did not remove the windows on my 89 but I think that was another thing I tried searching and couldn't find a good answer. Ill just remove the damn interior piece and figure it out myself. Ill let you know what I find

On your early car you will not find the removable panel. You can just cut the metal out to fit the speaker in, if you wanted.

I put 6.5' Polk-Momo in my 86 951. You do have to cut out a larger opening for the magnets in the sheet metal and find the later adapters from a late car. I just made a 3/8" MDF plate and covered it in soundproofing. You don't have to remove the glass and the original trim panels can be used so the new speakers don't attract attention being mounted on the outside.

I sold the car but I had a single 10" Eclipse sealed sub, 2-6x9 Infinity Reference 2-ways in formed rear cubby boxes and 6.5" Polk-Momo 2-ways in the rear sides and front doors. The fronts were custom add-on enclosures that could be removed and the doors returned to stock. It was overkill but sounded sweet.

Thanks guys I did discover that there was no removable plate. I will probably cut and make a panel because I just bought the speakers and want to use them in my new car. Thanks for the responses. Oh and Wow bad *** setup you had there KuHL.
