you can use either - electrical will cost you $$$ because you will also need to purchase a sender. it's a LOT easier to T off of an existing vac. line (such as the one going to the KLR, i've heard of people using this. I for one chose the fuel-vent line under the hood as i felt more comfortable drilling the firewall than cutting that plastic line).
autometer, vdo and others make mechanical boost gauges. if you go electrical, expect to pay approx 150-200 USD (that MIGHT include the sender at that price) vs approx 50-70 USD for mechanical.
