Just got this car yesterday afternoon. Running on an older LINK setup - Can anyone tell me more based on the control box?

I have never seen a 944 with that much rust. Are you going to part this one or fix it?

I have never seen a 944 with any rust. This would be a first. Whats the story on it? Does it have a MAF or what?

Yep - runs and drives although I haven't taken it that far yet or spooled up the turbo.

Came out of Michigan but before that was in New Jersey. Has 163k miles. No MAF - just some sort of temp sensors it appears and the Link piggeback.

Josh,

The Link system was used by Danno of Guru Racing ... it is a MAP based system.

It was "all the rage" on RL until he screwed a few people and went out of business.

I would guess parting out the system would be your best bet.

That was the first thing that came to my mind !! That car must have worked in the salt mines or maybe it was sponge bob's car ( with all that rust ... )
These cars have a zinc coating under the paint (on the whole car ... ) Never saw rust like that
good luck with it

It's weird, those were like $40k cars way back when (very expensive for the time) and were as fast as a turbo carrera, yet people routinely let 951's go to seed while every 930 out there seems to be sealed in a humidity-controlled garage under 8 coats of zymol. I don't get it.

Yikes. Looks like a good candidate for a race car. Needs a little love!

While I 100% agree with you... the "it's not a 911" stigma is most likely to blame. Sad. A few of my neighbors have stopped by to chat about cars on occasion and most of them wonder why I have a 951 and not a "real" or a "normal" Porsche (meaning: 911.) They don't realize that my 944 Turbo can run circles around a similar-era 911, and are shocked to hear me tell them that the last few 911's I've driven have been fairly underwhelming to drive, from a performance perspective, after climbing out of my 951.

We have to admit, though, that for all the performance the 951 delivers - the 911 is an icon, and probably always will be.

I recently visited some former co-workers and they asked if i had a current 'toy"..they got all giddy wanting to see it when they heard the "P" word. "It's out front guys"...I told em'. Went out to see it and one of em' even laughed..."oh god..one of those".

Meanwhile he drives some kinda homolgamated family sedan due to the fact that he is henpecked in every way by his wife.

Dickless..

In a "beater" kind of way I quite like it.
Body panels look straight, don't seem to have suffered from major accident?

Even though it looks like it's had some Life it feels like it will keep going forever if the basic maintenance is done... Or I'm completely wrong and mechanicals may be totally shagged?
