Question Wastgate going bad, I think

I replaced the CBV with the lindsay bypass unit, today (mounting in the negative position just seems to throw my mind in a whirlwind). I think my waste gate is shot. I would show 2 bar for the longest time on the stock gauge. Now I am at 1.6 on the gauge. I have the LBE set to "6 pennies". Still have a faint turkey gobbler sound (fap.fap.fap.fap.fap) coming out of full boost.

What are some of the signs that the waste gate is shot? noise, flutter, anything.

Could be the recirculation valve. You should be able to check either one for a badf diaphram with a vaccume pump. Just pull some vaccume on it and see if they hold for a while. Good luck

It may not be your wastegate. I had the same problem I would normally run about 15psi then on the way home from work one day I could only hit about 10psi and I got a funny pssst pssst psstt sound I checked the engine compartment and everything look like it was secure untill I noticed that the hose going to the intercooler was blown off so just reconected and everthing is fine.

That was the same sound I heard when my wastegate hose broke from the cycling valve. I read several threads that said is was the blow off valve. The valve would pop open to help protect the engine. Danno had a long thread about the pressures that would spike between shifts.

Speaking of Wastegates does anybody know how to test one out of the vehicle? I am in the middle of a turbo/cat bypass pipe replacement and would like to know if I need to replace it.
Thanks,

You have to remove the intake which takes some time but is not real hard. I would change to a manual boost controller before I wasted my time changing the cycling valve though. If you abandon the cycling valve you have to cap off the hose that connects to the intake boot so you don't have any air leaks.

jdog about the only thing I can think of checking with it on the car is to put air pressure on the top port to make sure the diaphragm does not have a hole in it. That will not tell you how weak your spring is though.

And also speaking of wastegates - where would be a good place to get a new or used shimmed waste gate?

if you bypass the cycling valve when you use a manual controller, can you rip out the banjo bolt that goes between the ic pipe and the valve?

If I am thinking right, banjo bolt goes to cycling valve, and that goes to wastegate.....are there any other input/outputs to the cycling valve?

The connections you mention are correct but there is another one that connects to the boot between the AFM and turbo. That line connects to a hard pipe at the front of the engine right around where the original banjo bolt hose connected to. You can get rid of that and plug it at the boot between the AFM and turbo. I never used a MBC but I think it also needs another line from the intake manifold but I am not sure.
