i'm not a huge fan of n2o just because of refil costs, etc. but i know a number of people with turbocharged vehicles (including one VERY VERY fast 600hp without the nitrous 300zx) who are running nitrous oxide setups. when done properly and when tuning is taken into account (he's running an electromotive tec3 - which has separate nitrous control and fuel enrichment etc) it can be VERY effective...

Turning up the boost is NOT going to give you the same benefits as nitrous. That's because AIR is made up of gases with the minority of the volume containing oxygen. In order to get 10% more air in, you have to turn up the boost a minimum of 15-20% and this increases the heat generated. It's the heat that determines the limit of turbo-boost and power generated.
Nitrous on the other hand, provides a much higher concentration of oxygen for any given volume than air. You can increase the oxygen-content in the combustion chambers by 10% without increasing the pressure at all. In fact, it may even be a little less because the nitrous will cool the air when it's injected. This gives nitrous more power-potential.
For example, if you're at the limit of pump-gas, say... 19-20psi on a 951 with stock compression, stock intercooler and upgraded turbo. This may be good for about 350rwhp and you're at the edge of self-destruction. Sure you can turn up the boost 2psi more to squeeze another 25hp out of it, but you've cross the threshold for sure at this point on pump gas.
However, if you were to use nitrous, a 50hp shot will not put you over the edge of detonation because the air-mixture will actually be denser and cooler than before.
The only difficulty with nitrous is programming in the appropriate amount of additional fuel to match the nitrous injected.

who cares about the NOS, he has purple tint and his ash tray is on fire.

I don't get why nitrous is such a "ricer" thing. I know my dads friend used it in his jeep back in the 80's.... and people have been using it a lot longer then that. Especially on american cars. I think it serves more of a spot on a drag strip than an auto-x course, but hell, its good power, and if done properly can be just as safe as any other type of forced induction. I say go for it.

If you do a search i put a ZEX Wet system in my 944 N/A. I still havent got the thing working right. Everything is set up as good as i know how, but on the dyno i only pulled about 15Hp at the wheels jump with a 55hp shot! I have not had the time to mess with it in months, but would like to see it work like it should if i ever get time away from my 951 among other things.

my previous post was not trying to imply that nitrous is "ricey" or that it doesnt belong on a porsche. im just referring to people calling it "NOS", like theyre playing the lead roll of the fast and the furious. NOS is a brand name, not a product. its like someone saying, "i want to put guru on my car"

I just personally dont think our 951s are so superior over any other car that we cannot use Nitrous Oxide on them ( or "Nawwwwsss").
Its a modification just like any other, and if properly monitored can do you wonders, just be wise of what you use when you use it,Upgrades are Upgrades,Just dont get greedy, that goes for anything.
But remember , Lets say
You lose to a car on the street or on the drag strip if your into that, because they have Nitrous.
And you say " Well Race me with out Nitrous and well see what happens"
That would be like someone telling you in your 951
"Well Lower your boost from 20 to 14psi and race me and well see what happens"
I mean come on,You Race what You have at the moment,Weather its on the track,The drag strip,Or on the street ( Although I dont endorse street racing,I dont see it stopping any time soon )
Just Be safe and wise of any decisions. If you want to spray your 951,Go ahead,Like I said,as long as you dont become greedy, its just another addition to anything you may have, but yet
That is my opinion.

The nitrous Mfgs. have made a lot of advancements and with turbo cars you get the added benefit of the intercooler as well. I researced it for some time but decided that the risk (even w/MoTeC) of leaning the motor was to big. The problem I ran into is that the lack of fairly high 951's using it. I did not want to be the first. I gotta believe that a stock, or near stock 951, if properly installed and used would be fine. Careful on the advance, A/F ratio and when the nitrous is used (probably only full throttle w/dropping after 5500rpm). I'm told, every time you need it, you're out. I also kinda worry about anything under 1,000,000,000,000 lbs. of pressure or whatever it actually is rated. I toyed w/the idea of spraying the I/C, but some will get into the intake, esp. at low speeds.
