Post GURU chips are great!

Well I've been following this board for some time, and thought it was about time to actually post something! For years I had a bone-stock 86 951 and loved it, but had to get rid of it because of a move. Two years later I couldn't stand it any more -- found a low mileage Guards Red 89, which I've had for about 2 years now and use as a daily driver. It had APE chips, and based on all of the posts here about headgaskets, running lean at the top end, etc, I took it to the dyno. Peak for 3 runs was 247rwhp and 269rwtrq, with AF way too rich and getting leaner at the top end.

I actally emailed Danno the charts, and ended up buying a set of GURU chips (they came in less than two weeks, BTW). Boy what a difference! Idle is smoother, throttle response is much crisper, and there's more power everywhere in the rpm band, but especially above 5500 rpm. This is with my LBE set at only 14 psi, peak boost of 2bar on the stock gauge. I haven't even installed the wastegate shims yet. Based on my impressions, I bet I'm making at least 260rwhp now. I can also tell when the chips are retarding the timing because of high temps, also -- the car responds more like it did with the APE chips.

Danno emailed me yesterday and offered to send the latest version of the chips as well (Version 7; I have Version 6) for FREE! I can't wait to try the race gas setting, and plan to take the car to the dyno soon!

I couldn't be happier with the car and with the chips!

That's Great! FWIW, I'd love to tag along for a dyno day so I can get a base-line on my stocker. It's always nice to see where you're starting (to make sure you aren't going backwards.. heh).

Also, there ae a few of us getting together on Sat, the 19th if you're interested (thread from the main 944/951/968 forum).

Thats awwesome ! GuruRacing has the largest known(at least to us )data base of competiter chip sets.Threw many months and many tanks of gas we have been able to squeek out all that we can and by comparing our chips to the others we can see thier problems and improve on them.Like mid range richness problems or even worse high end leanness. We are still trying to improve our own chip sets so thanks all of you rennlisters that have helped us get off the ground so go to DANNOS POST CONTEST and win yourself a free chipset.

I owuld like to also say how pleased I am with my products and the services that GURU offered me. I also got the chip package and am very pleased. I still have not done the wastegate shims yet either.

Also, I don't just love the feel of the car now, but the confidence I have knowing I am running chips that are dead on with the air/fuel and do not have to really worry about headgaskets, especially with the 3BAR fpr. Great job guys. I had a little problem at first and Danno and Travis were quick to help with email and on the phone. Can't wait for the new chips!!

Will we feel much difference guys??

Brian,

I'd love to come next Sat, but we'll be out of town. I'll let you know about my dyno trip -- probably early November. First I need to figure out how to get the wastegate shims in; I went to Performance Imports on Peachtree Ind. and they wanted 4 hours labor! OUCH! I'm going to try it myself but won't have time for another couple of weeks.
