Out of respect for the family that engineered these cars, please pronounce thier name correctly.

Porsche - two syllables.

Chris.. I agree with you, but usually won't correct anyone for calling it an "S"..But I always THINK about it.. and then mentally slap myself. The one that craps in my wheaties is the folks who call them 952s because of the engine code 52. with that logic, we could call them 989s because they were made in 89.. whatever. Also, how about a 951 TURBO? does that make it a TWIN turbo? DOH!

FWIW, Chris.. in some book, they quote Ferry as saying he wanted the car pronounced just as his name.. "PORSH"..I still think it's a two syllable word.. but if FERRY wanted it that way, who are we to argue? It will be debated way past my lifetime..

When I speak to Porschephilles, I call it a Porsh-uh.

When I speak to people that think my car is a VW (hey we DO have tons of VW parts in them!), I call it a Porsh. Otherwise, they get confused.

My father took a private tour of the factory back in '89. He was always intrigued on how "PORSCHE" was pronounced. The lasy leg of the tour was in the interior finishing room, where they stiched tops and seats. He said there were about 20 people there, and 99% of them said Porsh. 1 syllable, no UH on it.

I have always said Porsche with out the UH.

It does not bother me to hear it either way, but the whole '89 debate, or 952 debate....

Very true. I have a busted syncro ring with VW and the Audio rings stamped on it. These parts are all made in the same place, just put together a little different.

[quote]Yeah I know the right way is Porshaahhhh...but wtf, people think Porsche owners are snobby enough, there's no need to go around saying Porshahhhhh.

I donno, thats just me. I flaunt the car as little as possible. In fact I get annoyed when my friends say "lets take your porsche"....wtf why not "lets take your CAR"...

yeah, i get that all the time, it really bugs me (i just call it my 951, or "the p-car" when among my car-enthus. friends). oh well... it's still my baby no matter what name it's given

You know Perry, when I saw that 99% of 20 people called them Porsch (no uh), it makes me wonder how that .2 of a person was able to talk

I agree with other people above, when you drag out the name, people think it is for emphasis, and think you're being ostentatious or something. In general public (less I'm drunk) it's Porch (yeah, like the thing your rocking chair sits on !). Just kidding, it's Porsch, but around people in the know, it's Porsche.

And yes, I do have an TURBO S

funny. i visited the factory myself in 2001 and everyone I met said "porsh-uh" or "porsh-ay"

However, if you say Porsh-uh fast ehough, it sounds like Porsh.

It's all a stupid arguement anyways, becuase If you watch ANY Porsche commercial, you'll see, er, hear, how it's pronounced correctly.

I guess these things bug me becuase of how many times someone has called me "mr Sander.

My g/f likes to make fun of me, because whenever someone asks my name, I always say, "Sandor: es, ay, en, dee, oh, ar."

What bothers me is when people refer to it as a joke"PORSCHE"..!! not knowing the true potential of the car and how in its era it would take on a 3.2 carrera which had the same top speed and take off, but not as nimble on the road or as refined. At one point this car was to replace the 911 line so it REQUIRED to be outstanding., but of course people don't know and look at it as a cheap porsche project.

I think PORSCH sounds better. Might not be the right way, but Porsc-ha semms to me on the femenine side and I never got into the thing of giving my cars girls names....oh wait a minute, I do refer to them as my babies, but so are my kids ..does that make sense?
