Default Oil temp observations.

When I am driving with the engine trays on (front plastic tray and rear metal tray), I am reading 20C / 36F higher oil temp than when I am driving without the trays.
Same result on normal driving and track driving.

100-105C / 212-221F normal driving with the trays.
80-85C / 176-185F normal driving without the trays.
130-135C / 266-275F track driving with the trays.
110-115C / 230-239F track driving without the trays.
(air temperature about 25C / 77F on all readings).

I am measuring the oil temp in the drain plug.
http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Pors...A-OIL-DP1.html

I have an extra oil cooler in front of the radiator in series with the stock cooler.

I am not sure if the oil temp actually is 20C / 36F lower without the trays. Or if the drain plug is being cooled from the air, resulting in to low readings?
I guess the air is going more freely through the oil coolers whith the trays off?
What do you think?

The track driving when I did the measuring was only 8-9 minutes sessions.

I'm going with it's lower without the trays. I have the same sensor. The sensor is to far inside the drain plug to be affected by the air that much in my opinion. You have more exposure to air flow with the stuff removed.

mine runs warm in heavy traffic and cool on the highway. I have to change my thermostat though it appears to be sticky.

There are pics of my rad oil cooler on my post "finally finished cleaning engine bay" I have my covers off right now. I'm putting in the new thermostat tonight.

Hope that helps

What's the ambient temp? I see about 230F in the pan at about 75F ambient temp after about 20 minutes or so on the track. I run with trays installed. VDO gauge with a Lindsey plug.

In general, I'd say your temps seem hot overall.

Not sure this would change things or not but I did swap to the 95C oil thermostat from the 105C. Can't tell you with certainty that it changes upper temps or not; did seem to slow rate that upper temps were reached.

Oops. I should also mention that I'm running dual stock coolers in series.
