cooling fan
it seems like one prob after another
but i will take in stride
besides i love my car
anyway here we go - my cooling fan does not turn off ! when i turn off the car the fan keeps running and running and running ....
so in order not to kill my batt i pulled the fuse
can anyone make a diagnosis before i take it to the shop ?
thanks

Take out the cooling fan relay. (The big silver one) And smack it around (lightly of course) on each side in the palm of your hand. sometimes that does it for me.
I want to make a toggle switch to keep them running all the time while the car is on.

This is a very common problem. It is most likely either the cooling fan relay or more likely the thermo switch in the radiator. To determine which one, with a cool engine, a/c switch off and the fans running, disconnect the thermo switch. It is located on the drivers side of the radiator, below two hoses. Easier to access from below. If the fans stop the thermo switch is bad. Otherwise it is a bad relay.

Is that thermo switch a DIY job? I discovered the same problem with mine. Will there be any harm in driving with the a/c on to keep it cool?
Also I only see one replacement listed for 88-951. How do you get a lower temp one?
much thanks,
Rob

Driving with the A/C on will actually raise the load on the engine, and thus increase the coolant temperature. If you really NEED extra cooling, running with the interior temperature to max and the interior fan on max will actually take some heat out of the coolant. The heater core in the dash acts as a secondary radiator.
Imagine driving in a stock based racing series on a very hot day, having the engine begin to overheat, and having to turn the heat in the car on full blast to cool the engine.

It is a DIY project, even I could do it. Use a 30mm deep socket. It's under the upper Radiator hose, just keep digging and taking things out. I removed the air cleaner and the two hard black pipes running in front of the radiator.
The lower temp one came from Performance.
