Default This came off my alternator, bad?

Was installing my new battery cables and this piece was loose on the inside of my alternator duct. What is it and do I need to worry about replacing it?

You should be able to get that at a local alternator/batt/starter shop, it is a noise capacitator, no big deal. The one on my 964 broke, got one locally. You don't need this part, but it is nice to have.

I freaked out when mine broke off because no one knew what it was until I took it to an alternator/battery shop. Did you find one locally or just leave it off?

It cuts down the RF noise by reducing the arcing of the brushes inside the alternator, those arcs take a tiny bite out of the sliprings and the brushes and over time, reduce the life expectency of the alternator. Not to serious until the alternator loses the ability to keep up the battery, which forces you to buy a new alternator, which triggers a heart attack, with no way to get to the hospital, so you die on the spot. just saying ...

I think your alternator will be so happy with the new cables that it'll cut down on RF noise on it's own!
