Default failed emissions for hydrocarbons I PASSED :)

I passed two years ago because they didn't put my car on the roller, but this year they did. I think it might have to do with the smt-6 since I wasn't full finished tuning, and I passed with the stock autothority chips last time. I made the mistake of keeping the piggyback plugged in. F*ck me

I would think you can tune that out with the SMT-6. That's why piggy backs and standalones, unless CARB approved ,are illegal in CA. It sounds like your probably running rich at idle and part throttle. You should be at 14.7 at those two points? What are your readings... I am assuming you have a WB O2.

Sorry about that! The low NOx and high HC suggest it is running rich. I'd make sure your factory O2 sensor is working in good order, then use the SMT6 to make sure you are at 14.7:1 at idle and light cruise. If you don't have a wideband, then the state has just done you a favor by encouraging you to get one before something goes wrong. I have used the SFR 3" magnaflow in California and passed.

I do have a wideband. It is right at 14.7 at idle, but richer afterwards. I just have to take it to a shop before going back for a retest.

Steady state cruise about 2500 rpm in 3rd gear are you at 14.7 or richer, if it's rich that's where your problem is gonna be ie part throttle cruise.

Default UPDATE: FAILED NOX after tuning

I passed what I failed last time but failed what I passed. ****!
My friend took a look at it and he thinks I should richen it up a bit( I leaned it out to get the HC and CO down, but Nox went up) and check to see if my new cat is a 3-way cat since my car has no egr. Does anyone know if the speed force racing cat is a 3-way cat?
heres the chart:

Your HC and CO are good... Combustion temps are high causing the NOx fail.
Pull out a little bit of timing, and maybe richen it slightly.

I was thinking richen it slightly and check to make sure the SFR cat is a 3-way type cat.

Pretty much any cat is a 3way anymore. Pulling a little bit of timing (like the ~3° via the FQS) should help lower NOx.

could you explain how timing will cool it down and how much is 3 degrees on the fqs

Don't touch the AFR's you are right where you need to be!

It's the timing at this point. Others can explain it better but in general more timing equal more power, more power equals more heat (higher combustion temperatures) and more heat equals, higher Nox levels!

Plus you start changing your AFR around and your gonna be chasing your tail! To lean raises combustion temps ie NOX and to rich causes high HC's! Your AFR is right in the middle!

Basically, schip43 is correct. Less timing will produce a lower combustion chamber temps, which will help lower NOx.
