Do these actually work?
Any advantages to these kits?

Real power advantages? I have Welmeister chips, shimmed stock wastegate and jetted banjo, (running about 14.5psi). Or just "cosmetic advantages" like you can hear the turbo spool better.

Nordschleife Master
I beleive it was Danno that did the test, but there was like a 2-3hp advantage over the stock air box.... but i beleive they send throttle response and low end tq improved...
Do a search.

Robert, I just did this and it made a big difference. Tires will now just break loose in 2nd gear if I am pushing it. Sounds great too.
"Sucking hot air that's been thru the radiator. Probably decrease hp."
You would think so, but NO.
"Save your money."
Definitely save your money I can show you how to do this for $11 with generic cone filter, then add the cost for a real K

I agree, I bought one from a fellow 'lister, with a bit of trepidation because of the behind the rad issue, but truly, spool up is quicker, and it does break the tires loose more readily in 1st and 2nd than it did before. As for the hot air in issue, I suspect (and have heard this re: other turbo cars) that the heat added by the turbo is so much more significant than starting temp that the I/C pretty much assures that this won't be too much of an issue (not saying it isn't important, and I do plan on MAPing it behind the headlight) but it did make a difference...plus, I still can't hear the turbo so there was no aesthetic gain ;o)

I have a custom 5 inch intake cone conversion
(big ***,round pyramid cone). I also noticed quicker response and can hear spool better. In regards to heat, I am making a heat shield that will fit around the cone to help with heat issue and hopfully blcok that hot air cming up from cooling fans. I'll keep ya posted.

Wow, this was the first mod I've ever done on my car. Yes it does suck in quite a bit of hot air... if you're not moving. In rush hour, I can feel the heat soak, and routinely lost to my friend's E36M3 (at night I'd be quicker). It takes a good 5 mins of driving to cool things down enough to be effective again. Works great at the track.
If you get a vented nose panel to increase cold air flow to where the filter sits, the heat soak effect goes away. Great bang for the buck mod IMO.

Before I put my cone filter on, I couldn't hear the turbo spool at all, but after I did and put on the reliaboost, the turbo noise almost drowns out the sound of the engine. Pretty cool.

I bought this, a fellow rennlister has one that he modified to fit his 951:

We'll see hot it goes. If it doesn't work as planned, I'll put it on my lawnmower!

The top photo is old but the bottom one shows how the air meter is placed so that the air filter is behind the head light.

I think the kokeln product is the more logic to use, but don't expect to much. Exept sound, you won't realy have a gain. By a chip and an exhaust first. And ask Guru before bying anything!
