Help! Too much boost from Autothority MAF
I recently added the Autothority MAF kit to my '89 944 Turbo, bone-stock except for 2.5" fabspeed exhaust, no cat converter, and a billet bypass valve. The car came alive with no turbo lag and tremendous pull out of corners, so I really enjoyed passing Corvette and several new 911s at Pocono Raceway, as captured on video. The party was short lived though, as the car blew a head gasket :-( We replaced the gasket and the chamber gauge shows 22+ lbs of boost, which is way too much. Autothority quotes a more manageable 15-17lbs boost from MAF/chip, so we replaced the recycling/vacuum delay valve, but the boost remains abnormally high with engine pinging.
Did anyone have this problem of abnormally high boost? What could be causing this and how to control it? Why is stock wastegate not preventing this? Clearly, conversion back to stock chips/intake is the safest option, but I am trying to explore other alternatives before doing this. I would really miss the reduced lag from less restrictive MAF, not the boost per say, so perhaps there are alternatives to Authothority in that respect?
Any help or advice is highly appreciated!
