Default I also need a transmission

Hey guys, found out from thedice951 who is helping me with my car that I need a new tranny, he spun it by hand when he was replacing the CV joints and it locked up.

So does any one have a transmission in good condition or rebuilt they can sell me. Its for a 86 951 located in NC. Will pick up anywhere within 4-6 hours or Raleigh NC. I would love LSD and oil cooler but would be willing to go without.

But that leads me to a second question is it possible to add an LSD to a nonLSD transmission and if so what do the costs look like.

Thanks,
Alec

Yes an LSD can be added, for between $500 and $3000 depending on which one, how much work you do yourself, and the like.

What do you mean he spun it by hand and it locked up?

Ian still offers his tranaxle tune up for $1295, and can add an LSD at teh same time.. total bill close to $3000..

There are a few other options, but honestly, it is likely to be cheaper to find a good LSD gearbox than rebuild yours and add a LSD...

LSDs also wear out over time, you'd probably get more from a rebuild.

$1300 worth of more? dunno

I am not really sure what "spun it by hand and it locked up" means myself. I am not mechanically inclined and am learning these cars slowly. I think he said that some teeth were broken off where or what teeth I am not sure.

Thanks for the input, at this point I would agree finding a rebuilt or used transmission with LSD already is alot better way to go.

I looked at the website you supplied http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/ASI...ssion-944turbo and I am wondering if there are teeth broken thats not covered in the referbish correct? DC automotive is offering an LSD for 2200 rebuilt. It looks like that might be a better deal than sending mine off to 944online.

Thanks for the advice though!

For me to buy today under 1500 would be ideal. But I could go alittle higher I think.

The car is for street use and hopefully 4-5 track days a year (maybe a bit more). Would a non LSD be a bad idea?

While on topic, how much would someone be looking to get for an AOR box, should they happen to have one?

Those are rare to get. I wish I could have one in excellent condition with less thank 100k miles. Maybe playhammer or cacakakepie on ebay, I say $ 1500.00 low to $ 2499.99 high depending of condition and mileage, but what do I know iam a ousted councilman after all

hello, I'm working on Alec's car....
when i removed the axles i spun the trans while in gear, being its a non LSD trans both sides move opposite of each other while in gear. while spinning the passenger side the driver side stopped and i got about 1" of play before it would "catch" again. at that point it would lock up unless you forced it or go back and forward a few times until it lines up.... there is more than likely a broken tooth on the spider gear on the passenger side and when it wants to reengage it doesn't line up right and that's when it locks up.... while driving the car you would get a LARGE clunk/pop when leaving from stop sign or shifting at the right(wrong) time and the torque tube would be thrown in the side of the tunnel.... fairly violent if you ask me....

No not here over pelicans, This is what happened, someone was selling a 5R tranny for like 1299.00 saying that it was a steal I opened my big mouth and said no, steal was my price $ 599.99 for a 5R, ( I sold the 5R a few months back and the lister is super happy with it)than another guy came with the councilman scumbag thingy, than to make it worst another of my customers from Colorado whom I have sold many parts over the years said that if it was cheap than something was wrong with the part, is that the philosophy behind it? So I am increasing my prices because I have been over 10 years transferring savings to this community, giving the best at the lowest price possible and there is no appreciation that hurts. And to top it I tried to get a small business membership and IB said there is no place for used parts on this forum.

I can’t go over pelican, the guys over there know that I could take the business from them in a second, that’s why they bash me, honestly the reap offs I see over there are incredible.

Best regards

Lart
