timing belt roller - what size?
I'm in the middle of changing belts/rollers/tensioners on my 86' 951 and I noticed the timing belt roller on my car has a 46 mm diameter and the one I recieved as replacement is 32 mm diameter. The listings I have show the 32 mm is correct. The 46 mm looks like what came off from my 87' that had a tensioner. Seem to have a vague memory about something to do with early and late waterpumps but I forget the details. Is this 32 mm okay to use? Thanks, Bill.

I'm not sure if it is ok to use or not, but it is my understanding that it is because of the late waterpump. I am in the process of doing the timing belt / water pump / lots of other stuff on my car. I got a new 46mm roller for my car (it had a 46mm on it to begin with).

Bill,
The 46mm roller is for the updated water pump. The smaller roller will not work/fit. To my knowledge, all water pumps now are the updated variety, so the smaller roller isn't going to work. BTW, you'll need the belt guide and some extra nuts/bolts to make the guide rail install correctly to the waterpump. The inner plastic timing belt cover will need to be hacked to accomodate the guide rail and larger rollers.
However, your vehicle looks to have the larger roller so all the above work should have been done already. You just have to transfer the belt guide rail from the old pump to the new one and then use the 46mm roller.
