Default can't remove the power steering bolt

Previous owner rounded out the 6mm Allen head hollow bolt that attaches the high pressure power steering line to the rack from the power steering pump

Not much room there to get any other tool to break it free

Any way to make more room without dropping the power steering rack completely?

Any ideas?

Thanks

I just did this on my car and consulted Chris White at various stages because there is no way I could see getting to this area. His advice is to follow the factory manual. for the most part, and drop the rack. I was about to drop the cotter link pins to the tie rod steering,as per the manual, and he said don't have to go that far. I did release the sway bar from the middle bolts so it would swing down out of the way.
It helped to have the jack stands all the way up on both sides to get clearance to work on it.
Once you have the steering rack dropped and sway bar out of the way you need to disconnect the clevis fork from the steering gear lower u joint. That is critical to getting the job done. That will allow you to maneuver the power steering up.down , and all around. Make sure you have the wheels off the front of that car BTW.

thanks for the input

does this mean you do not need to separate the tie rods from the steering knuckle?

removing the 4 bolts that hold the rack to the crossmember and the steering gear u joint will free the rack enough to move it?

seems too good to be true- but hope it is

Donn,
Do NOT separate the tie rods from the knuckles! Don't remove the 4 bolts until you undo the 10mm nuts on the steering knuckle and loosen it.

Yes, removing the knuckle and 4 bolts will let the rack drop down to get access. If you must, just pop one TR end.

BTW...the 6mm hex banjo bolt does not hold the high pressure hose to the pump.
