Default what to buy for suspension

I have a 1986 951 that has a lot of RWHP and I would like to upgrade the front suspension. I have upgraded ball joints and now I need to do the bushings. Any ideas of what to buy and from who. I looked at Lindsey, Elephant, Vertex auto to name a few. I want to try to keep costs down. Give me some help.

Street machine only? Stick with mostly rubber and poly. Take a ride in my car or Anderson's and you will know why. Spherical and solid mounts clunk, squeak and really decrease the ride quality. Upside is the car feels great...not worth it on a street car though.

I would just replace the front control arm bushings with original rubber and get the 968 caster blocks for the rear.

Jon, I did drive Andersons car and I loved it. Noise, turn the radio louder. The car handled so great and I want that feel. I checked out some bushings. approx $700.00 per side minumum. That is insane.

I went with sport hardness rubber for my car from these guys: http://www.elephantracing.com/suspen...erbushings.htm

I couldn't justify the price and NVH for just a street car.

I will check this out later. Have to leave my accounting and do lawn sprinklers. The joys of owning businesses, always busy.

If you want sphericals it is hard to beat racers edge. Their kit is $625 for both sides. I will agree Jon though is that they do increase road vibration and they can be noisy. I don't have a radio so I cannot turn it up. The polys on a street car will really tighten up the front suspension and will dampen some of the raod vibrations.

Here is the link to the Racers Edge front bushings.

Just out of curiosity why mention you have high horse power and then talk about the front suspesion?

There's always the poly option Powerflex seems to have the most comprehensive bushing sets available, and poly is remarkably better than rubber, without the noise/maintenance of spherical...

I thought the poly bushings squeak a lot especially on the street.

I was just going to say the same thing...

If the vehicle squats a lot under heavy acceleration, that's the rear.

I would only do the rear caster blocks, get the spherical if it makes you feel better. I am a big fan of Racers Edge (Karl has great customer service) but the Elephant Racing ones have a weather seal on them which is nice. Ive run the Racers Edge over 20k miles on my car (includes rain and some dusty roads) and have not had any issues with the bearings wearing out or anything so cant say it is a deal breaker. Leave the front rubber bushing original as long as its in good shape. For the strut mounts the KLA's are good and reasonably priced or just go with the camber plates. I also have the Racers Edge camber plates.. do not need the extra adjustment yet but wanted to get more of the rubber out of the suspension. With the spherical caster blocks and the camber plates there is a fair amount of extra noise and harshness in the ride but its not bad. I dont mind a stiff ride but anything more is a little too extreme i think.

The only poly bushing i tried in the front were the Weltmeister red's and they were not all that great in my opinion. Rubber was superior i think. The only other options are either spherical or delrin..neither of which id like to be driving on unless its at the track. I think its good to leave atleast one part rubber in the suspension to help absorb some of the vibration and bumps.

Anderson's car actually still felt a little soft to me when i drove it a few weeks back. Might be because i am running 18"s vs his 16"s though. Ill take you for a ride in mine when i get back in a few weeks so you can see how it feels.. i think you will like it.

I agree with John. Rubber mounts are the way to go for street cars. My car is a much improved car from the stock suspension but with all of the Lindsey Racing escort cup and torsion delete suspension as well as the upgraded bushings, the car is rattling and squeaking all the time. I didn't expect the noise and I thought car wasn't right until John drove the car. The car feels great on sweeping turns and long entrance and exit ramps, but you loose a lot of civility. John thanks, finally got in touch with Tom.

We expect 350-375 RWHP Me, I think 315-375. Will see next week after dyno. I am supposed to pick up the car Monday Night. WWWWHHHHOOOOOO power, more power. I think, the rubber may be the way to go for now. I really do like andersons suspension, but he is hiding the car from me. A note to anderson. Dear anderson stole your car for the suspension, love Stephen. do you think that may work.

Although, the racers edge seem very tempting. I may just go with them. Love that road feeling as you take the turns.

No rattles or squeaks with the Racer's Edge solid mounts, camber plates, sphericals - nor with the Elephant Racing Polybronze. Definitely more road noise though.

Good sphericals don't rattle.

Cheers,
Mike
