New Brakes
I just ordered new rotors and pads for my 1988 944 turbo. I was told by previous owner that it had recent brakes on it. Last time I brought it in for a new timing belt the mechanic said rotors were to thin. (BTW he said belt was recent to, turns out was done about 10K ago but closer look on reciept, date was about 4 1/2 years ago)I did pull off a tire and measured the rotors and they are indeed to thin to cut. Would anybody be able to give me a step-by-step to change rotors and pads on this year car? I had the brake fluid changed less than a year ago so I think I should be good there. A friend of my neighbors can probably check my work, but I would love to be able to do it myself. I have bought the hand tools I need and I still need to buy a couple jack stands , but I should be good to go. PS about how much should I pay to have the belt tension checked at about 2000 mile mark?? THANKS

Local dealer charges about $150 to retension.
I can't remember a step by step process on removing the rotors on my '86 but it was pretty easy. Shouldn't be difficult on your '87. BTW, on the jackstands do yourself a favor and buy the 6 ton per unit pair. They are a lot sturdier and safer.

Check out www.clarks-garage.com under the shop manual section of the page. It's always hard the first time for me. It's really not too bad, just take it step-by-step. I have a tool I got from Sears to push the piston back in so the new brake pad will fit. It works well and was around $15. I track my Audi (951 is new) and change brake pads alot so it was worth it for me.
