Thanks everybody! That's what's so great about this site - in less than an hour from my original post I had a response providing help and giving direction. I have to promise to visit more often.
As advised, I ordered two relays and had them over-nighted to me. I'm installing it later and keeping the other in the glove box!
Cheers,
Mike R.

Waterguy and MHT,
Thanks for the advice and I did read that thread which was iformantive but I do have more questions now. I dont see anything burned out or any other damage on visual inspection like Tazman showed on his thread were he showed some damage to the dme solder joints. What does this mean when ther is nothing obviously wrong on visual? The other question is were are the location of the grounds on these cars?

Three Wheelin'
The DME grounds to a bolt at the top of the bell housing, the same location as the main battery-to-engine ground. This ground commonly becomes corroded, resulting in the bad grounds that 944s have become known for. Do a search on Iceshark battery cable kits on the main 924/944/951/968 borad for loads more information.
