oil around intercooler pipe
I was checking zee oil yesterday and noticed the clamp was a little deformed looking and upon inspection the pipe circled had some substance I suspect to be oil around it by the clamp. I tightened it up, but It wasnt aligning correctly. Car drives great, is this a problem? The turbo getting old? 120,xxx miles on original. Top end rebuilt at 88,xxx.
Thoughts? Worries?
Thanks!!

Sam,,if it's just a small amount, I wouldn't worry about it. Your top end is probably good, turbo might be letting a bit of oil by if still orginal but as long as it is not pouring out, your not burning much, and no smoke out the back; wouldn't worry. Some residue is normal in the pipes. You might want to take out your intercooler and clean it if you never have. You'd be surprised what carb cleaner gets out of there! I was.

Mine started to expand and crack, so I bought a new one 2 years ago. Still looks great. Nice and clear. Kinda expensive though. Like > $160

My turbo was leaking oil. Sent it out to Majestic Turbo. Should be back today. I am just about finished a total R+R of my engine etc. I just cleaned out the intercooler......or should I say resevoir..... almost 11oz of oil. Too much oil in the combustion process will hamper performance. If, after the car sits for a couple of days, you start it and see some smoke for a few seconds it might mean you have an excessive amount of oil passing by the turbo. Assuming your valve seals are OK. Plugs can sometimes alert you to problems in the engine. Take a look. Good luck. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
