Great article! Where's the photos? I'd like to print it out full-page on 11x17" and put it up on the garage wall!

Good article but a couple problems....
"The 911's rear engine layout caused a number of engineering problems including a tendency for the tail to whip out under rapid acceleartion."
Uhhh...no...its when you lift OFF the gas goin around a corner at the limit..
"The Porsche 944 Turbo had a brief life. It was built between 1985 and 1988. "
Uhh maybe things were different in NZ? But in the USA it was 1986 to 1989...ROW it was 1986 to 1991..
Sorry to rain on the parade. I love my 951 of course...but that article wasn't all that great IMO.

Gotta agree with you there. It's lacking detail, it's lacking eye-candy as Danno said, and it sounds too much like a third-person report if you ask me...all hear-say and nothing to learn from it.

I agree, pretty weak article. I think its normally referred to as 'lip service' or 'filler'. Maybe the writer was a few lines short of his wordcount requirement for the month

Technically, cars are built a year or so before they are released. For example you can get 03 models now. But now you think I am a smartass so talk to you later

True- I think you're a smartass No, seriously- you're right about getting 03's in fall of '02, but, they are still '03's. This sometimes creates confusion too...
When I got my car, it was b/t a 951 & a VR6 Corrado ('93 or '94). I only saw ONE '94 for sale- '94's are RARE- it was REALLY a '93. A Corrado junkie friend had told me that it HAD to be a '93 as the particular color was only offered in '93. The guy argued, saying that they called it a '93, but it was really a '94 since he "bought it from a dealer in '94..." Well, I bought MY Turbo S in '99, so I guess it's a '99
Another curve ball: the 951 was actually released as an '85 in some places. There are several in the US, but only a couple- evidently, their only dif is their lack of a third brake light...
300ZXTT- everyone says they debuted in '90, but there WERE some '89's- no idea why(?) Sure, they actually made a lot of them in '89, b/c they were sold that fall, BUT, they would still be '90 models. But, for whatever reason, some were designated '89's- maybe a certain month dictates which year they will be? Maybe any that come out before, say, September 1 are considered that year, and any that come out later, are considered the next? Really only seems to matter w/new models though. Anyway, a friend of mine's parents got a 300ZXTT late that summer- the most impressive car I'd ever driven at that time! It was an '89. I've argued that w/several people, but it's not worth it. Most mags, etc list them as starting in '90, but every now and then, you'll see something list them in '89...
Oh well, long reply for such a trivial tangent...
I'm going to go check out the test now...

Yeah, while it is nice to read a complimentary article about our cars it could have been written a little better w/less mistakes...
As for the 911 cornering: I know the standard problem w/the older 911's was the deadly lift-throttle oversteer which often caused it to switch ends. But, I also thought that hitting the throttle too hard could bring the tail out too- like when the front wheels are well planted? I mean, I know the guy had it backwards, but, isn't it true that oversteer can sometimes result from over acceleration? Just curious, as I haven't had much seat time at all in 911's....

951 was released in the late summer of 1985 at Sweden/Stockholm autofair.
A friend of mine have a '85 model. The last ones were manufactured july/august '91.Some of them were sold during '92. so registration says they are '92 models...

I think the '85 951 also had the early square dash. Also the early-early '85 951 had 15" phone-dials and the 944NA single-piston brakes as well...
