Other than that, I've had the kit in for over a year and it's been flawless.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Great, thats good to hear! Too bad about the switch being too big. I was thinking that I could wire it into the ash tray in the center console. That way I could cover the switch up and everything would look stock. Not that I care much about the stock look, but that might be a good place. I'll have to see how hard it is wiring stuff past the gearshift. I think I can just go along the sidewall. Thanks again for your help Hugh!

It's actually really easy to run wiring to the ashtray. Plenty of space. I tapped the ashtray for my boost gauge lighting. That's a pretty good idea for switch placement, though.

Thumbs up

-Bobby -thanks for the info, very useful. I do admit that i'd like to have the oem switch wired in if possible. Hugh seems to indicate it is possible though perhaps not easy. Working that into an alarm system in turn should be do-able as well. **Also, you indicated that the keyless entry only unlocked the driver side door -is that the ONLY way it will work, i wonder? I think i'll check into some of the Black Widow alarms and see what i can find out.

Hugh -what part of NYC are you in? While i was there unfortunately i chose to leave my 944 behind, expecting i wouldnt have a place to park it in the city. Then i moved to Williamsburg and had some space and wanted my car! The job wasnt working out though and i needed to get back in school (i couldnt afford it there!!). Since then, i've noticed there are a lot of 944 people in the are -and a race track or two worth the drive.

Kelsean...Actually the keyless entry does lock/unlock both doors. I have the BW3000 model from Black Widow. I admit I am intrigued by the idea of creating a switch to unlock the doors from the inside. I might attempt that myself.

Wiring up the OEM switch isn't that hard. You just need the right relay.

Kelsean - I live in Chelsea but I keep the car in Queens. Easier to work on the car out there and I've got space to keep tools and whatnot. There do seem to be a lot of 944 people in the area but I haven't had a chance to hook up with them yet. Hectic lifestyle at the moment involving a lot of travel.

As for the tracks, I agree! I'm headed to Watkins Glen next weekend. One of my favorites.

Talking

I've done it in my car in '94 right after I puchased it, I installed a Viper alarm and a lock kit from JCWhitney (@$50), since then I haven't used my key in the door.
It was pretty easy to install, actuators conect to the original lock shaft, run wires and that's all. Actuators are even switches that you may use to open or close oposite door, now the button switch that comes with it is ugly as hell. But, I got myself a couple of original switches (one to open, the other to close) to use them while in the car, also I disable the actuator switches only to live working the closure when I press my own door lock with my elbow (like jap cars).
