From what i understand a stock 944 turbo runs 14.2 1/4 mile times. im not sure of the 0-60 but im sure it's decent.
So what would be needed to pull a nice 12 out of it?
also what kind of LSD do 944's have? Do they have any traction problems?

Actually, stock 944 turbo runs 13's but some sites say it runs high 12's.
The 944 Turbo is faster in the 1/4 mile than the Turbo S because the turbo has less lag than the turbo S.
The 944 Turbo runs 5.5 sec. on 0-60.
Porsche is not a dragster so why you want low ET's?
I have a MAF kit which is a great mod. I recommend you get one.

13's? are you sure? that seems alittle high for a 217 horse 2600lb car doesnt it?
i dont want to drag out the porsche but where i live in the SFV/LA area if you're not running at least a 12qm then you're not respected.
plus i want to beat my friends 400 whp cutlas, and my other friends z28.
does the 944 turbo have LSD i read somplace saying some did some didnt

Get with a good tuner and make sure he has the time slips to prove what he is selling.
If a tuner tells you that the 951 wasn't designed for the quarter mile they are right but if a 951 cant run the strip a few times to substantiate the claims then there is something wrong so make sure you get proof as too what your buying in the form of time slips. This is what the Import and Domestic car tuners do and most of those cars were not designed for the strip either.

I think even a chipped 944t can be in the mid-low 13's Im sure a good maf would run it a the high 12's.
Challenge that cutlass and z28 to a REAL RACE with turns ...... you will leave them in da dust and your 951 will get the respect it deserves.

A good set of Chips, test pipe, and boost controller at 18psi will put you in the low 13s very easily. Thats not bad for a few hundred bucks. Make sure the chips are burned for the boost that you want to run. Guru racing makes excellent chips.
The 951 is not designed to be a dragster. That is a warning not necessarily a deterrent. I drag mine occasionally. With these cars, you have to expect something to let go sooner or later.

2600lbs for a 951?
In your dreams...
More like 2900-3000lbs with 1/2 tank of gas.
A stock standard turbo is not faster than a stock turbo S in the quarter mile, not even 0-60.
As for getting a 951 in the 12's...find your nearest tuner and ask them.
It's gonna take big turbo, fuel, some sort of GOOD fuel managment, 3" turbo or at least downpipe back exhaust, wastegate upgrade..etc...probably more stuff that I'm forgetting.

You want consist 12's or better, easy. Drop the engine out and put in an LT-1. Of course, then the car looses most of what makes it special, but whatever floats yer boat.
I see all the 0-60 times and whatnot, and can't honestly imagine ever wanting to abuse my car in that fashion. Rolling starts at 20mph, sure, I'll give 'er hell, but the load on the clutch/tranny from a dead stop is too much, in my opinion.
Regards,

What about starting in first gear but not dropping the clutch or reving up your engine. You would probably loose a second or so but would this be more gentle on your transmission and clutch ect...

Turbosport, you lose more than a second or so.
I used that method once while still shifting quickly through the other gears and I ran a 15.3 or so @ 107.5mph with a 0-60 of 7. something.
I imagine with a launch that would've been 0-60 in the low 5's and 1/4 in low to mid 13's.
I think 60-90mph is a great test of a 951's performance.

<a href="http://vista.pca.org/stl/944turbo.htm" target="_blank">http://vista.pca.org/stl/944turbo.htm</a>
says curb weight is 3,115lbs
isnt curb weight a full tank 2 people (150lbs each) and lugage?
so i figure deduct 600 lbs from the total and you get roughly 2600lbs. Im not 100% on what curb weight means but i know for a fact a 217 horse car would not be pulling a 14.2 q/m at 2900 lbs
droping in an lt1/ls1 would cost more than the car itself, and why isnt the original engine consistant?

Curb weight is not a full tank, 2 people (and 2 midgets) and luggage...That's gross weight, the max weight the car can safely carry according to Porsche.
Where did you see 14.2 with the standard 217hp? Don't forget the 240-250 lb/ft of torque!!
I know the turbo S is down around 14.0 with 248hp and ~260 lb/ft of torque.
FYI My car weighed in at ~3150lbs with ~3/4 tank of gas and no driver.

i weighed my 1968 camaro with about 1/4 tank of gas and no drive with firberglass hood and it was at 3060 lbs, there's no way my camaro weighs less than a porsche.
