Brake cooling duct???
I partially disassembled the front undertray of my car and ended up breaking the drivers' side brake duct(no pun intended). So, anyone have one from a parts car. I checked the calssifieds, and thought I would ask here first before calling 944Ecology, etc...
Thanks.
Thanks.

Eric,
I recently replaced the ducts in my 951S with 3" ID flexible (expandable) aluminum duct from Home Depot. I looked all over the place for plastic flex duct (that my car originally had) but I couldn't find it.
Hope that helps.

Petros,
Thanks for the reply. I was considering doing something similar to that, but I hate to monkey around with both sides(the passenger duct is still intact) and only having flex-tubing on one side would bug me.

Some advice if you plan to go wth the "after market" brake ducts.....don't waste time on using the alum tubing from home depot...it wont last very long, will crease, dent, and tear. The best way to go is with aircraft silicone tubing. Very durable and heat resistant up to like 800F. Can be purchased by the foot from most aircraft supply stores. Not cheap per foot, but you don't need much, and it will last WAY longer than the alum stuff. Plus the place I went had it in 1/4" diameter increments to allow for custom fitting to the solid duct-work

OG Racing do a cool-brake kit for the 951... it ducts air directly into the middle of the brakes disk instead of vaguely in the direction of the brakes!...

Check out their new website.... very cool!

Hey Eric, I need one (plus support bracket) for my right side. How about you buy the pair off E-Bay and I'll buy the right side duct from you?

I appreciate all the info. Unfortunately, after checking E-bay and a few dismantlers--the $50 is a bit much right now(Holiday gift buying season). Although, I do like your idea waterguy--how about YOU buy the set, and I will buy the driver side from you ?

Seriously, I thought about that, but the seller (dC Automotive) is in the northeast US, and says he ships to the US only. It doesn't make sense to ship a brake duct across the continent and the Canada/US border twice!
Four days to go, no bids yet. Let me know if you condiser it or another similar set.

Friends,
I have no reason to disagree with txhedg about the durability of the cheapo Al duct from Home Depot.
My original goal was to replace the duct with neoprene flex duct but in my order from McMaster I screwed up the diameter and I got 2 1/2" ID. This eventually replaced the flex hose of the alternator.
Very durable hose, $6.5/ft., heat resistance rating of 300F (which is an overkill anyway just for an air duct).
I strongly recommend it.

I like the scoops used on the 968 & 996 cars. Appears it may deliver more volume to the brake discs since the travel-path for the deflected air is much shorter.

Rich, I live in Burnaby just north of Lougheed Mall; no, wait, its now Lougheed Town Center. Are the brake ducts interchangeable? Could we buy a set and split them?
Anybody had any experience with Malahat Auto Parts? They seem to be the only local wrecker (local to BC anyway) with an inventory of 944s.
