Custom Clutches for high HP apps!
Hey Guys!
I am happy to announce that DST is now able to get custom clutches made for any VW/Porsche/Audi application. We can get Kevlar facing, Copper, Organic, spring centers, solid centers ETC. I am pretty sure no one else offers such combo's. We can do 6 puck, spring centered, kevlar faced disks that will handle 400+HP and still be streetable and affordable! I just burned up my Sach's 4 puck racing disk. I lasted 3500 miles. It had great clamping capabilities when new, but was not able to handle the stop & go associated with street driving. In addition, it was fairly diabolical for street use. It has been replaced with a 6 puck that has (I hope) similar clamping capabilities and is somewhat more streetable. If you manufactre one that can handle 540+ H/P and right at 500 ft. lbs., as well as being somewhat streetable, I'm interested.

I'm not sure what DST is using but we have had very big cars running our aluminum 3200# and 3800# pressure plates on track and off including a couple of drag racers which can't seem to break it! We use a 6 puck disc too for competition cars but it will not work for a street car where we use the 'Cup' disc. Either set-up goes well with an aluminum or steel lightweight flywheel too.

I just recieved my Centerforce clutch ($999 from windward with t.o. and pilot bearings) and it is a thing of beauty.
It weights 5 lbs less than the oem clutch/pressure plate (18lbs vs 23lbs). It is currently down at the machine shop where the flywheel is getting lightened (14.5lbs to 9lbs)and surfaced. Then the whole assembly will be balanced.
With the dual friction clutch, Centerforce claims a 90% increase in holding force over stock, with MINIMAL pedal effort increase. The funny thing is that the friction disk is made by Sachs. But it stands to reason that the more clamping force the pressure plate generates the less likely the disk is to slip. The Centerforce pressure plate design of using weights and levers to take advantage of centrifugal force is a cleaver one.

Centerforce has a tech line, you might want to consult with them. I know that a lot of high torque, big block drag racers use them.
I do not have half the horsepower that you do, but I did not like removing most of my mechanicals just to get to the clutch, so I don't want to do it again.

I'll contact Centerforce if this 6-puck fails to last. Jon shipped this to the shop and they worked on removing some metal off of the bell housing (the arm was up against the housing). For now, it works fine. Still a little tough at the start, but I have not noted any slippage.
