LSD & tranny questions

Danno, I had checked the Zexel Torsen sight, and they only offer to repair the unit if you ship it in for service.
I was optomistic in my asking about the likeness between it, the Guard, and Quaife unit, since small variations in design would negate my chances of using their parts, in repairing my diff.
I don't know the price differential between the two major brands, re: <Is the Guard unit truly of "higher quality" as claimed than the Quaife unit?>, they look to be of similar "quality", you make these types of decisions sometimes on gut feeling, like the SC mudslinging as of late. If I had a NA car in need of a SC, I'd lean toward SFR as I am satisfied with the "quality" of items I have purchased. Your personal preference for the Quaife must be based on sound resoning, and only you can answer your question.
Personally, if I had $1200.00 to throw at a new diff, I'd get the Quaife.
I'm gonna call Zexel and get an estimate, for themto do the "magical" repair, that only they can perform..! (yeah right)
Heck, I may have an ancient, unit that they may wish to buy back, like Elvis Pressley's Harley or something..! LOL
Thanks
Terry

This may be a bit off topic. Can anyone recommend a synthetic gear lube for a daily driver LSD? The dino doesn't shift 1-2 very well when cold. The syn's I've tried seem to chatter at slow speed. The lock up is great, but cruisin a parking lot it stutters. Thanks. This is a great discussion and has answered a lot of questions I've had about the LSD.

From what I've heard the Torsen is optimum for autocross type events while the clutch type is superior for open track events. At least that was the common understanding as far as I know. I believe Garrity also subscribes to this line of thinking.

I think the torsen, is "the" choice for a street car, though, I've made no comparison between the two in open track and autocross events.
Cooler temps
Ability to hook up 300+Hp more effectively
No wearable parts (excluding mine above) lol
Choice of torque biasing ratios
Continuous activation
Are some of the feature that make the torsen better IMO..
If I could only devise a way to mount a center torsen longitudinally and drive the front wheels...

Try out both Mobil-1 and Swepco tranny-oil and see which one you like better. I've found that my shifting is much smoother with less synchro-crunch at the track with Mobil-1.
