86 Vs. 87+ 951 worth the money?

I'd post the GTS pic's if I could figure it out... I was kidding about the 951S, although there is a fellow with one that needs an engine rebuild for around $12K. I think the 87 is what I will pursue. The toys were getting sold anyway, it just seems that both of them are leaving at about the same time. I had my eye on a 92 C2 Turbo that I was going to buy before my brain(wife) took hold. I went to the $2K S b/c I thought it was a really good deal. I never really wanted it per se. Last year I started out looking for an 944T and ended up buying the 928 b/c of the price...Now I'm back to square one. Thanks again for all of the advice...

How dare you...Yeah that's it. It sounds and looks like a decent deal. I've got a friend flying out to Cali next week and I'm hoping to be able to tag along and drive back if all is good. That is if my buyers come through this weekend... Won't be the first time if they don't show. Wish me luck, unless something else equally interesting comes up.
BTW, how do you post pic's? There is almost zero info in the faq section.

Well no reply from Minh so it must be gone...
Here is my next victim, it is local which is a plus and has lots of upgrades and records.
"86 944 turbo - black/grey-beige, 117k miles, very good condition. All records since new. Many options. Recent repairs include timing belt, new clutch, new Koni sport shocks/springs/struts/, frequent oil changes, a/c repair, oil seals. Modifications include stage II chips, boost controller, boost gauge, cross-drilled rotors, ss brake lines, lowered springs, momo steering wheel, BBS 16" three-piece wheels, Alpine CD player, etc. Needs: tires, digital clock, windshield washer repair."
By the way what does it cost to buy and replace with an LSD? I think that may be all that I would need in this car until I could rebuild the engine and add the Garrett. I wonder what It would cost to have the same Garrity work as the 87...2.7 etc...?

Ross ... car looks nice. Figure $1-2k for a 951 LSD (I paid $2k for a new 89S tranaxle) plus removal & installation if you're not going to do the labor yourself.
Are you sure this car doesn't already have LSD?

Okay, here is the deal the 87 "Garrity 2.7L" car is available. It does not have LSD or ABS and miles are about the same as the 86.
The above 86 is listed about 20 minutes from me for roughly $5K less with no LSD either. I could mod the 86 similar to the 87 for around $4000 plus shipping. What would you fella's do? I'm gonna pull the trigger here in the next couple of days so any more advice is helpful. What am I overlooking? n I'm an analytical SOB so bear with me.

Seems the difference may be the airfare to Califonia.
If the'87 was well kept, other than the engine, then you virtually have a new car there.
Sit down and tally the upgrades to the '87 and see what kind of actual $ figure you come up with.
$4000 seems conservative for those upgrades.
Are the wheels on the '87 forged or cast..?
They look like the cast wheels in the pic's, however chroming them at wheel enhancement runs $200 each + shipping if memory serves.
The forged wheels (seven spoke) are worth $1000-1200 by themselves in good condition.
Something to think about if you plan on changing them for another type, as you could recoup a good deal on those.

I say the Garrity 2.7L engine alone is worth the price difference. Even if everything else on the '87 car is in worse shape than the '86, I'd buy it just for the engine. In the long run (5-yr+), it's engine repairs and upgrades that'll cost you the most money. Everything else you can pretty much do yourself for minimal costs.
