what does it take for 951 S to get 0-60 sub 5 sec. and 1/4 sub 13 sec?
I am just curious. Just got my car so I need to learn its present limits and don't have any money now but for future reference. Stock 951 S are suppose to do 0-60 in 5.5 sec. and 1/4 in 13.9 right? Would chips do the trick?

Just chips? Not likely. Those numbers you have were from a test of car with the lower European R&P installed. The 0-60 times are probably a close wash because that test car had to do a 2nd-to-3rd shift whereas the normal TurboS can do 60mph in 2nd. But 1/4-mile times are more realistic at 14.0-14.1sec.
To get the times you want, you're looking at about $3k mininum in mods... or nitrous...

to get down to sub 13's...
SDS standalone engine managment $1200 + install
stage whatever turbo...like $1200-$1400+
turbo back exhaust - $800 (custom, or like $1400 from SFR)
big Injectors - not really sure...I think $500?
Some beefier wheels/tires couldn't hurt...
OR you can autocross/DE the car and drive it as intended...

I know these cars are not drag cars by any means but I think those numbers are important. There is not too many instances where I can drive this car "as intended" at 100+ or switchbacks. Too much traffic and dont need tickets. Most kicks come from freeway on ramps where you can accelerate quickly and take the ramps at high speed. Dont like to speed on public roads and drivers in my area are rather bad. Other than that, its getting stuck at a light with some kid in a honda (and Mustangs) who thinks they have the coolest ride. Anyways, I am just exploring the possibilities....I dont think there is anything wrong with desiring to explore the limitations of the car. Who wouldn't want a 944 that is better in 0-60 and 1/4? LSD? What is that?

As much as I love pulling fast laptimes, nobody else seems to care. Friends will think I'm "too extreme" when talking about laptimes. Drag racing, totally different. Everyone knows how fast your car is when you give them a 12.0s 1/4 mile time. 1:40s around a track, they would have no clue how fast you are.
Plus laptimes can't be compared around the world, 1/4 mile timeslips can, that's why 1/4 mile racing is so popular on the internet.
Anyways, the 944 isn't a drag car, but can be made to go quite fast down the 1/4 mile. Just be prepared to buy CV joints =).

Oh, just figured it out LSD= Limited slip differential right? Yeah, I've got one of those. So chips wont do it huh...I thought +40 HP would maybe do it since these cars are relatively light.
Yeah I will be enjoing the 944 to the fullest before modding. As far as 0-60, I believe 5.5 is accurate because one of the magazines did a direct comparo with a 300zx TT and the performance between the Turbo S and the Z was identical (although character was very different). The TT Z's did 0-60 in 5.5 by most press so I think the 5.5 is accurate.

I agree with rage2. I love going to the track and shaving a second or two off my lap time. I think its the biggest thrill. But I tell me friends about it, they just look at me with blank faces. The only reaction I get is when I say "..at that point in the track I'm doing 135mph, braking hard for..." then they get a little more intersted in my ramblings. But most everyone knows about the 1/4 mile and times there are universal.
0-60 and 1/4mile times are not where the 951 shows its true muscle. Its pretty hard to launch a 951 right. On the track however, this car shines beautifully, and you can share that with other track people. They understand the dedication to consistent lap times and the subtle mistakes that can cost you seconds; they know how much on an eternity a couple of seconds is.
Take that to heart when you see that ricer next to you at a stop light thinking he has got the badest thing out there with headers, intake, chopped springs, and stock single piston brakes.
Just look at your car. Even stock, its worlds away from that. Look at what your car was designed to do -- be a supercar for the road. Then look at that Japanese econo-box and realize that it was designed to carry groceries!
Just my 2 cents.

While a turboS is by no means a drag car, I can see how sucking the doorlights off a hopped-up honda at a traffic light is kinda fun
The really important thing to remember is that unlike most cars, a clutch job is an ENORMOUS undertaking. Figure 20+ hours + ~700 in parts. Do the math. Don't abuse the clutch!
Instead of 1/4 times, wouldn't speed be a better indicator. All things being equal, speed would be more representative of the power level of the car, time is more about the drivers reaction/ amount of abuse. This way, you don't have to 'drop' the clutch or powershift or anything other crazy stuff.
I think, typically, a chipped turbo S will run ~104-105mph (1/4 trap speed). My friends supercharged mustang run's about 106-107mph (13.4-13.5 secs).
Anyways. I always laugh at people who want to drag race on the street. That seems to burn them even more!

Well, if you're going for drag-racing, be prepared to spend A LOT of money on clutches, tires and CV-joints. That $1200 clutch job won't last yo more than a couple of months. Better off spending $2000 for a Centerforce or custom clutch that will maybe last 2 years under drag-racing style launches.

I was told the 951 clutch is "backwards", so a centerforce clutch at speed would have less clamping pressure due to centrifical force working against it? Any clarifications on that Danno (or does Centerforce make a custom 951 clutch application?)
I'm looking for a strong clutch setup right now, clutch slip at 100mph is not fun.

NO! These numbers are not important. All they tell you is what a car does from a standing stop, which you don't do on freeways right! What your really concerened with is 60-100mph, or 20-60mph or something realistic like that. Hell for me I only have 5 stop lights between my house and work, 4 of which are for left and right turns Everything else is on the freeway and I'm already cruising at XXmph. So what do I care how fast I can burn my clutch out?
There was an article in a magazine recently which discussed 0-60 and 1/4mile vs. real world performance, and how many manufactures today gear cars specifically for thoses tests, but when they are raced in a more real life situation the story is different. Just be happy with your car, and don't waste money just so you can tell people a number, it's just benchtalk. I was at the track (streets of willow) with a freind who does quite a bit of drag racing and road racing in his Mustang Cobra. He claimed sub-13 sec 1/4 mile times and 300RWHP on a dyno (think he uses slick at the strip). Anyway my Turbo is basically a stock S with JME chips. On the straight coming off a 2nd gear turn at 2500rpm he really pulled away like I was parked until I hit 3500rpm then it stabilized for a while and I very slowly started to real him in, and he is still dumbfounded how I could do that when he had such a huge jump. In a drag race I'm know he would have spanked me. And if I could keep my RPM up over 3000 at the exit I'm sure I'd have no problem.
