which way do i go on 2.5L rebuild?

Factory WorkShop Manual. I.e. those burgundy binders, or the pdf files (which is what I have). PM me if you don't have a copy.

IIRC, you can not use tolerance group 1 pistons in a group 2 block. But maybe there is an oversize ring set you can use. Honestly this is where my expertise ends - someone else can tell you if you can use tg 1 pistons in a tg 2 block.

If you're lucky, one of your tg1 piston sets will measure out to be on the larger side, and your group 2 block will be on the smaller side. You need to have it all measured accurately. The manual will show you exactly where to measure.

The group number only applies to pistons and cylinders. So you can swap cranks, no problem, just check bearing clearances and get the right size bearings. Usually standard size is what you need.

How badly damaged are your two group-1 shortblocks? Deep scratches?

thanks...i do have the manual.

i will get the pistons and cylinders properly measured...then figure what to do.....i just dont want to make this into another huge build, i have my 3.0l coming back soon anyways.
