Water pump replacement
Hey guys, I need a good set of instructions on how to remove the water pump on my 951. It looks pretty complicated. Also, is it a good idea, I fI do it, or should I just send it to a shop to have it done? How much do you guys think for everything? Thanks.

Water pump is a BIG job because you have to remove the balance and timing belt. Unless you have the special timing belt tension gauge, have an EXPERIENCED 944 mechanic do the work...

I did mine myself , spent maybe 20 hrs but I disassembled much more than just waterpump parts .This is the first porsche i've worked on and it wasn't that bad.I actually feel much more comfortable owning the car now that I know where most everything is. Also my local porsche dealer made a mess of my wife's gti, so why risk $$$ for repairs on the 951.I rented the tools for about $65 for a week(incl. sh.).I am somewhat obsessive so I rechecked my work several times.I can forward the link for the tools if you like. Total cost under $500(some other parts replaced as p.m.)

If you can do the belts, there is no reason not to do the waterpump. Go to http://www.clarks-garage.com/ and look at the instructions he has on his site.
As long as you follow directions well and don't break off any studs, you'll be fine.
Make sure you have all your tools prior to starting. This was one of the first repairs I did to my 951 back in 97...
