Sounds suspiciously like an issue I had. Check out this thread for my DME repair. It's pretty easy to do and definitely worth a try.

No! - My Nose Panel Is Not From Deutsch 9....

My guess is wiring harness related (I told JY this yesterday). Since the engine has been replaced the old harness has been moved around and bent in to unnatural positions - that will cause many old harnesses to fail.

Not much fun to troubleshoot and fix…..
