Post WTB test pipe

I'm looking for a used test pipe for my 87 951. Manufacturer doesn't really matter. I just decided to do a testpipe instead of just a cat delete, as I have some smashed piping.

I just took a close look at my exhaust for the first time last weekend when shimming the wastegate and now have a dumb question...

How is the typical "test pipe" installed? I see clearly that the cat is bolted to the rear exhaust section, but it wasn't apparent how or where the front section ends. Is it necessary to cut the pipe? If so, would a test pipe typically be welded in?

Take a flashlight with you under the car. The pipe is bolted on to the downpipe with 3 bolts. Just follow the catalytic converter pipe. You couldn't see the end as it is too dark without a flashlight.

I tried Denny, he wanted $595 for a 3"! I can get a SFR 3" for $499. I'm really just looking for one that someone is trying to unload. Bursch, SFR etc doesn't matter. 2.5" would be ok too.

I had a local guy here in Phoenix quoted me a price of $250 for a bolt in test pipe. He would put flanges on the cat and make a piece of straight pipe with flanges so that when I went to the track I cound install the test pipe and save the wear and tear on the cat. He also gave me a quote of $550 to make a turbo back "3 with high flow cat and a Dyno Max muffler. That was with aluminized pipe not SS so the life woulnd't be as long as the higher quality systems offered by other suppliers.
